Pretty consistent trend.  I've posted these kinds of numbers before.  The majority of the country is right of center IMO.  Liberals are a minority.

I think most people are fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

I think most people don't give a shit about what other people do, but they want their money to stay in their pockets...

I think the majority of the country is socially conservative.  Here is one definition of social conservatism.  Sounds like things most Americans support:

Social conservatism is hardly controversial as a lifestyle. Social conservatism means the observance of traditional social values. Dedication to family and community. Celebration of country. Responsibility, self-reliance, initiative. The sort of mainstream values sometimes dismissed by the intelligentsia as “Norman Rockwell’s America.” It includes caring for the poor and dispossessed through support for private charity. It celebrates the traditional nuclear family comprised of a mother, a father and children. It means family dinners and Sunday barbeques and taking an interest in children’s education and activities. It means parents providing the means for children to grow and advance and taking responsibility for their needs.

It includes a sense of responsibility for one’s community and the setting of community standards of behavior. It means teaching children the virtues of, well, virtue. It means teaching them manners, politeness and a civilized way of interacting with others. It involves defining morality and expecting that others observe standards of moral behavior based on the traditions of our culture; the preservation of traditional moral values. In the broader sense, it is creating a sense of community with shared values and standards all are expected to meet.

It means becoming involved with the civil society, as generations have conceived it. Involvement with improving neighborhoods, towns, cities, states and the nation. It means civic involvement at some level. It includes taking an interest in how the community is faring from levels of education to levels of crime. From civic upkeep to acceptable behavior.

It includes civilized interaction among friends and enemies and those one does not know. It requires polite treatment of those with whom one comes in contact. It means tolerance for those who are culturally different, but not of those whose behavior falls below community norms. Social conservatism means treating people with courtesy and decency and kindness and not knowingly hurting any person who doesn’t deserve it. It means observing ethical standards and achieving a level of integrity. For that matter, striving for integrity as a positive social good. It means demanding and observing honesty in one’s personal affairs and intolerance for dishonesty in others.

Then by it's own statement, this country is not socially conservative.

50% of Marriages end in divorce and only a very small percentage of people care about giving to charities... Those that do, generally do so for some tax benefit.

Almost none of specifically for "the poor".

The fact approximately half of all marriages fail doesn't mean people don't support the traditional family.  Part of the reason people get married in the first place is they believe the right way to do things is find a spouse, have kids, and raise them in a two-parent household (if they choose/are able to have kids).  Most people support the traditional family.

A substantial number of people give to charities.  That's the way charities stay in business.  Charities help "the poor."

lots of 'conservatives' decide marriage isn't right and call it splitsville.

lots of conservatives do a lot of liberal things.
lots of liberals have conservative beliefs on many things.

most people are shades of gray - very rare is a person completely conservative or liberal.

If people really cared about the "traditional family", they wouldn't get divorced... Plain and simple.

More charities are for other things than helping "the poor".

Sure, those charities get their fair share, but if you look at overall non profits, I'm sure more of them are for some "thing", then actually helping people.

Of the below top 10 Charity websites, only 3 are actually for "the poor".

10 Best Creative Charity Websites

Giving to charity is something that is seen as generous, responsible, and extremely caring. Many people donate money to certain charities that they hold close to them. Others will chip in their piece of charity by completing volunteer work at soup kitchens or working at a homeless shelter, or even volunteering at a local SPCA. However, in today’s world, as economic situations are tough and less people have the extra time or money to donate to charity it is even more important that we show we care by helping others through charitable causes.

It is said that in 2009, charity donations will drop about 5.6%. This is a very steep drop as the need for charity donations is on the rise. Because of this, companies and charity sponsors have come up with more creative ways to give back. Since Internet usage is booming, many charities have come up with websites that raise money to provide donations, whether they are food, clothing, shelter, or just money.

Below is a list of 10 charity websites anyone can visit in order to give back. This list isn’t for advertising reasons, but if you ever have a few spare minutes while on the ‘net, check a few of them out.
10. Race to Stop Violence Against Women

Violence against women in cultures throughout the world seems to be an ever-growing problem. The website provides a button that you click that donates money so that women are able to write and send letters, explaining their abuse and situation in hopes for the problem to come to the forefront. Visit the site.

9. Race for the Oceans

Our oceans are slowly depleting, leaving marine life in plenty of danger. With a few clicks you generate money that is given towards saving our oceans. The website donates money towards saving marine life and hoping to turn the health of our oceans back around. Visit the site.
8. Free Flour

Flour seems like something that isn’t so important, but in today’s world, many countries are in need of it, as homeless and less fortunate people use it to make common foods like bread. The website offers a trivia game where each correct answer supplies a spoonful of flour. With 100 spoonfuls, you donate enough flour to make an entire loaf of bread. Visit the site.
7. Prevent Breast Cancer

In recent months, breast cancer awareness has almost become a fad, with pink becoming the new black. With this website, a few clicks help to raise money for Breast Cancer Fund, in order to supply money for cancer research, testing, and outreach programs around the world. Visit the site.
6. The Rainforest Site

The rainforest has long been a problem for many countries around the world. Rainforests are being cut down and more and more exotic animals are losing their habitat and becoming extinct. By just clicking the button, you are able to protect acres of rainforest land by donating money to the Rainforest Conservation Fund and other foundations that protect rainforest land. Visit the site.
5. Trivia for Charity

This website allows you to pick a charity in which you’d like to donate money to. The website is relatively new, but allows you to donate to homeless animals, cancer research, or homes for those in needs. The website offers a trivia game and each correct answer totals more money towards your chosen charity. Visit the site.
4. The Animal Rescue Site

If you’re one that loves animals and would love to give back, the Animal Rescue Site is a great way to donate a little bit of your time. A few clicks go a long way on the website. Each click donates food that is given to animal shelters and clinics around the world in order to provide for homeless animals. Visit the site.

You can also try Free Kibble which is a trivia game that provides food for homeless animals.
3. The Hunger Site

World hunger has been something that countries have been trying to end for decades. Sadly, numbers for those having to deal with hunger and starvation haven’t decreased much. With the Hunger Site, you easily click a button that donates food to those in need. Since its establishment, the website has been able to donate over 657 million cups of food throughout the world. Visit the site.
2. Free Poverty

Have you ever wanted to learn your world geography while still being able to give back to the needy? Free Poverty allows just that. The website is a geographical game that anyone can play. No matter if you get the answer right or not, you are still able to donate a cup of water. If you do get an answer correct, you donate 10 cups of water. The website donates clean water to locations where fresh water is scarce or not available at all. Visit the site.

Help Thirst is a website very similar to Free Poverty that also donates cups of water. It involves memorizing numbers.
1. Free Rice
free rice

Free rice is the first charity website that I came across today. The website provides a game for users to play. You can choose between many different types of games. But while you’re having fun and maybe even learning a few things, for each answer you get correct, you’re also donating grains of rice to poor countries. In May 2009 alone, Free Rice was able to donate 1,403,545,670 grains of rice. Visit the site.

The people who get divorced don’t care about the traditional family?  You mean they’re not divorcing because they just married the wrong person?  Why do those same people often get remarried?

Not sure where you got the website information, but I know of a ton of charities/nonprofits that help “poor people.”  They exist in every major city.

Id say most ppl are socially conservative as well...

you said that most ppl are fiscally conservative but do you fail to understand that would lead to social conservatism(lol is that a word?) as well? social programs etc. need money from others to rely on...

it also depends on how you define conservative...to me it means "leave me the fuck alone" to others it means something else...

alot of liberal ideas dont play well in american society look at gay marriage and its failure to find traction, racial quotas, AA etc...

"Gay marriage's failure to find traction" is a narrow way to view it.   30 years ago you would have never ever seen anything on TV, like a sitcom with gays on it.  You would have never seen celebs admit they were gay. Even just 20 years ago it would have been unthinkable to consider bills to make gay marriage legal yet now, there have been bills and there will be more.  Eventually it will win.  It may take 50 more years, but it will happen.

The way i see it, "LIBERAL IDEAS" have grown and flourished.

Think of how the views have changed with things like drugs, free sex, skin on TV, etc.  in the last 50 years.  From Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke sleeping in separate beds to casual gay sex insinuated on prime time TV.

All you have now is the liberal idea of gay marriage being introduced.

That would insinuate that people get divorced because they don't care about the traditional family.

People get married to have a family, whether its to acknowledge the love between 2 people and or to have children.

People get divorced because they no longer are happy or love each other and therefore feel they cannot be a family anymore.

They are not saying:  I dislike the traditional family so I'm outta here.

LMAO THE DIVORCE RATE IS NO WHERE NEAR 50%

This is the Census Bureau's often-cited "50%" rate, the proportion of marriages taking place right now that will eventually divorce, which has since been revised downward to roughly 43% by the National Center for Health Statistics but was moved back up to around 50% by the Census Bureau in 2002, with even more ifs ands and buts than usual. Most recently, according to the New York Times, it has been revised downward to just over 40%.

::) ::) ::)

yes you see but do you know how they get those numbers?

you see like the health care bill with its CBO report that you shilled for, if the numbers that are put in arent misrepresented then the following output is shit and not an accurate representation of the truth...

what they do is take all the divorces in a year and divide it by all the marriages in a year...problem is this doesnt take into account ppl that didnt get married that year, ppl that didnt get married in this country, the fluctuation in marriages from year to year...so as you can see this causes a severe inflation in the percentage of marriages ending in divorce...

LMAO a link just below the paragraph you copied and pasted... ::) ::) ::)

http://www.divorcereform.org/nyt05.html

"The figure is based on a simple - and flawed - calculation: the annual
marriage rate per 1,000 people compared with the annual divorce rate."

"The method preferred by social scientists in determining the divorce rate is
to calculate how many people who have ever married subsequently divorced.
Counted that way, the rate has never exceeded about 41 percent,"

but dont let facts get in the way  ;)

i didn't say you were wrong.  the number is obviously below 50%, and you are correct in that.  There doesn't seem to be any absolute correcty number that everyone can agree upon, but it seems to be well below 50.  I posted a link that backs up exactly what you said.

So um, stop being so defensive here

The MAIN reason people get married these days is in the hopes that their partner can help clean up all the baggage they carry, (emotional, financial;, etc..). Once they find out the other person is just as fucked as they are, it ends in divorce.

disagree i think the main reason that ppl get divorced these days is b/c they have no idea what marriage is really about or like.

ppl think that marriage is the fairy tale bs being happy and loving one another the rest of their lives. Fact is marriage is hard and there are days you want to strangle the person more than give them a kiss. There are rough patches that take both persons working through as an individual and working at as a couple to make it through. Ppl lose their identities in marriage which is never supposed to happen, it should always be an individual her, an individual him, and a couple her and him...not just always a couple her and him like many ppl think when they are in relationships

LOL it does but you see the numbers that it gives outside of that 50% are also inaccurate...again you have to account for how someone gets the numbers...you dont need me to remind you of the CBO numbers again do you?

and actually I think we agree on most everything you just like to argue so we butt heads...see I think we could even agree on that  ;)
