Where did you hear that?

From the guy that sold him the fake Submariner for a tub of Plazmosis and a pair of KK's soiled thongs.

It is recommened that you service a Rolex once per year and that is the cost that Rolex charges. Take it up with them not me.

this is usually the case if you buy a rolex from a locally owned store and not a big chain type place

To OP- I love nice watches. Let me tell you something- buy a watch that is beautiful to look at, stands out, will draw attention without looking too flashy. Right now, if you shop hard, you can find a Hublot Big Bang for probably 5-6k online. Possibly slightly used but who cares, they are 10k brand new. Let me tell you something- the pedigree of this watch is second to none. It will keep it's value if not increase in value, it looks fantastic and will make the average joe say DAMN as well as a millionaire at a banquet. That's the thing- a breitling or omega looks nice and will impress some people, a rolex will impress just a few more, but a Hublot will open the eyes of the "right" people if you catch my drift. Shows you not only have some cash but TASTE and CLASS as well. Any moron can go drop 5k on a rolex, a truly refined high class individual buys Hublot. Trust me- go to some high end watch shops and ask their opinion. They will tell you you cannot go wrong. This is what you buy when you want to define yourself, set YOU apart from THEM. Trust me on this.

No no, it is not once per year.  It is about every 5.  What they do is take the entire watch apart sprocket by sprocket and switch out any pieces that aren't perfect, the shitty part though is they will then try to upcharge you for a new crystal glass, or new hands or something else if it is defective.  The watch does come back to you damn spanking new.

i know this because I have one.  Bought it a few years ago as a gift to myself with some stock that I made a quick dollar on.

This is true.

I have a nice Rolex and a good Breitling, but i never wear them because i will probably just get shot for them one day. Plus i always wear long sleeves at work so it's pointless. If i'm going to a wedding or something fancy i might wear one, but i typically find watches just a pain to wear.

Mine's an Armani watch - cost me $400 when I bought it last year. I love it - looks good when dressed casual or smart but I wear it in work mostly. Wouldn't mind a Brietling but like others have said in the thread, can't really justify spending 3-5k on a watch - I'd rather put that sort of money towards a car or a real good holiday.

My most expensive watch is about $500 I bought several years ago. I have about 7 that I have accumulated over the years. The one I wear most often is a $20 timex I got at Walmart 3 years ago. I wear it to work as I have broken/lost too many watches to risk it anymore. I had a wealthy brother in law that was the epitomy of fashion. He was showing me a watch one time that cost him about $25K. I of course didn't recognize the name because I'm not into the status symbol stuff all that much and he was disappointed. He said he got that reaction from almost everyone, so he traded it in on a Rolex because most people knew that one.. This was a few years ago when Rolex was king.
I understand Coach wanting to buy something like that as a long lasting gift to himself. I wouldn't spend that much on a watch, but I've spent money on custom paint jobs, or classic cars that other people thought was a waste of money.. to each his own.
