Muslim opponent of mosque reports threat
By Brian Lilley, Parliamentary Bureau

OTTAWA - She spoke out against the Ground Zero mosque, now a Canadian Muslim

woman says she is being threatened. Raheel Raza, a founding member of the Muslim Canadian Congress, calls the idea of a mosque within 300 metres of Ground Zero “a deliberate provocation.”

Last week Raza joined Maureen Basnicki a Canadian widow of 9-11 in attending a meeting about the mosque in New York City.

“They were very arrogant. They didn’t answer questions,” Raza told QMI Agency.

The meeting was hosted by Daisy Khan, the wife of the Imam promoting the mosque and Sharif El Gamal, the man whose property firm owns the land the mosque is to be built on.

Raza says she asked questions about who was financing the building, estimated to cost $100 million, and whether any of the money would come from countries other than the United States. There has been much speculation that the mosque is being funded through Saudi Arabian sources but at the Manhattan meeting Raza said there were no answers.

On Monday, back in Toronto, Raza says she received a call on her cellphone from a man who identified as Sharif El Gamal. “His tone was intimidating,” said Raza. “He accused me of 'jumping into’ the meeting he called and then said 'May Allah protect you.’ I was shocked and hung up.”

Raza says she took the phone call as a clear threat against her.

“Why would I need Allah’s protection?” asked Raza.

Raza says El Gamal's tone was threatening and she took the phone call as a clear threat against her, and not as it is sometimes used, as a casual phrase meaning goodbye. Contacted at his New York office El Gamal initially didn’t have much to say. “I’m confused by your phone call,” he said before hanging up.

Contacted a second time El Gamal said “There was no phone call made by anybody” before again hanging up the phone to abruptly end the call.

Raza insists there was a call, “I saved the number on my cell.” The number on Raza’s cellphone matches that of El Gamal’s Soho Properties offices in New York.

The proposal to build a mosque so close to Ground Zero has become a hot political topic in the United States.

Mauren Basnicki, who lost her husband Ken in the attacks on the World Trade Center, told QMI Agency she originally had an open mind about the mosque being built so close to the site of the 9-11 attacks, now she is against it.

“We all believe in religious tolerance. I don’t think for one minute that this is about religious tolerance,” said Basnicki.

Speaking with QMI Agency from her home in Collingwood, Ont., Basnicki says many might be afraid to speak out for fear of being branded as bigoted but to her the location is just insensitive and she’d like to see it move.

Here is a clear cut example of Muslims being racist against other Muslims. Clearly, GW Bush and Fox News are to blame.

It's America's fault (oh yeah, India and Israel, too).

Mosque Developer Rejects Meeting With Paterson
Updated 11:00 AM EDT, Wed, Aug 18, 2010

The developers of an Islamic cultural center that would include a mosque near Ground Zero have rejected Gov. David Paterson's offer to help them find a different site.

Paterson said today the group is apparently committed to building in the proposed site. "I think they would like to stay where they are, and I certainly respect that and I certainly respect them,"  Paterson said.

But, Paterson said the dialogue would have been useful as the project has ignited nationwide debate over freedom of religion and anger over the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.. "Having said that, how much more foresighted would it have been if the Imam who is the developer of the project had been willing to hear what we are actually talking about?"

The planned $100 million center would be built two blocks from the World Trade Center site, where nearly 2,800 people died when Islamic extremists flew jets into the twin towers. The project is headed by Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, a Muslim cleric who has worked to improve relations between Islam and the West.

"I am very sensitive to the desire of those who are adamant against it to see something else worked out,'' Paterson said last week. The developers declined to comment. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who last week made an impassioned defense of the project, saying it would be a "sad day" if the project gets shut down.

The project is headed by Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, a Muslim cleric who has worked to improve relations between Islam and the West.

Morgan Hook, a Paterson spokesman, said talks were under way between the governor's office and representatives of Park51 to set up a meeting between Paterson and the project's leaders.

"We are working with the developers on a staff level but there have not been any formal discussions between the governor and imam or developer," Hook said. "We expect to have a meeting scheduled in the near future."

Mosque spokesman Oz Sultan released a statement Tuesday saying he did not believe a meeting had been scheduled yet.

"We appreciate the governor's interest as we continue to have conversations with many officials," Sultan said.

King, the ranking minority leader of the Homeland Security Committee, said that he had spoken to Paterson on Tuesday and that the governor expected the meeting to take place within days.

"He said he is meeting in the next day or so with the developers and the leaders of the mosque to discuss his proposal to move it to state land. My understanding was the imam is going to be there," King told the AP.

Rauf was scheduled to leave this week on a two-week trip to the Middle East as part of a religious outreach effort by the State Department.

Meanwhile, a majority of New Yorkers remain opposed to  ground zero and the issue will be a factor for many voters this fall, according to a statewide poll released Wednesday.

The Siena College poll showed 63 percent of New York voters surveyed oppose the project, with 27 percent supporting it. That compares with 64 percent opposed and 28 percent in favor two weeks earlier, results that are within the polls' sampling margins surveyed 809 New York City residents July 28 through Aug. 5 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Daisy Khan, wife of the snake leading this project, has said the mosque will help non-Muslims to integrate and not the other way around. Muslims do not want to assimilate into Western society. They want to destroy it and subjugate us.

And this recent incident by Pelosi is another shining example of how much leftists loathe the first amendment. When in doubt, silence dissenting opinions. How totalitarian of the Dems. :-\

Spot on.  Wouldn't surprise me in the least to hear she's been attacked or worse in the near future.  Of course, I'm sure MSM will spin it as "conincidental" and just a "disturbed" person not doing it in the name of Islam.  ::)

FBI agents are Repubs just because Bush was in office?  Now I guess they're all Dems?  Shit, guess HH6 and I fucked up....we should be Democrats right now.

BTW, I'm sure Fox would put Osama on the air if they could get the interview.

I'd be happy with no mosque anywhere but I'm aware that's a completely "un-American" point of view

It's a RECENT point of view.
If Japan wanted to put a Buddhism shrine at Pearl Harbor in 1950 with the ridiculous premise of "helping non-Japanese integrate into their way of life"

it wouldn't have been "un-American" to tell them; "You're fucking high if you think you're putting a shrine in the very place that's still damaged from your fucking attack on America.  How about I take a big Jesus dump on Hiroshima's site for you to worship?"

Ground Zero imam plays hide & sheik
ny post ^ | August 22, 2010 | LACHLAN CARTWRIGHT

People in the Persian Gulf kingdom of Bahrain fumed yesterday that the cleric behind the proposed Ground Zero mosque toured their country under tight wraps as part of a State Department-organized goodwill tour of the Middle East.

"This man comes from America to speak with us, but we can't find him," ..."Why must he be so secretive? It makes me think that his visit is just for show, which makes me angry."

Despite the fact that the $16,000 trip was covered by taxpayers, the department, which organized the trip, repeatedly refused to disclose the details of the two-week excursion to Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

Rauf said he'd seek funds from overseas to finance the $100 million project. But a mosque spokesman refused last week to say whether they'd reject money from the Holocaust-denying and nuclear-weapons-seeking Iranian government.
