12 off the meter Inventions (and my story on going to InventHelp)
« on: September 05, 2010, 11:27:51 PM »
Here are 12 off the chain inventions. That if you think of it, are "why didn't I think of that" ideas

http://www.crazyegg.net/miscellaneous/12-brilliant-and-useful-inventions/

Also, I recently had a appointment with InventHhelp, yeah some help they are. Basically they wanted me to fork over $900+ for them to do Marketing Research and Product Placement Research. At this time, I don't have funds to just throw away, just put a new engine in my car, and I got credit card bills like a mofo...So, I said I don't have the funds. Then dude comes out with the, "18 yr old comes in and plunk the money down." I tell dude (who is a salesman, foremost), that they are probably using Daddy's credit card.
I told him that I had a person who could build it, and he said that even if you had someone build it, it may take 10 grand, and if you get a patent, then what?

Anyway, I was tld by someone who went thru with it, that what happens is then they ask for 10K more, and have a third party Impex come in and cut you out of the product---they may cut a check, then make millions off of the product by selling it to a manufacturer...She said that they even pressured her by bringing someone in to talk about financing, "What's $230 a month..."

Damn racket...so has anyone invented something or know of someone who invented something, and how did they go about getting a prototype done and marketed it. Cause, I want to keep my idea...I already had a idea last yr and someone came out with something similar--a A vibrator that you can attach your Ipod to. I had designs and everything, even a "EQ pleasure adjuster"

A patent isn't worth anything anymore... Trying taking a chinese company with communist backing to court when they steal your idea.

The way to make money is to be the first to market with plenty of inventory and marketing and then it's basically over once it gets copied.

Your best first step is to talk to an Intellectual Property/ Patent Attorney.  (However, you'll be paying them for their time, I imagine.)  They understand the patent process and timeline, the practical limits of IP laws, and the associated costs.  They can provide you with nondisclosure agreements for prospective manufacturers and design consultants.

A design engineer will be able to give you advice about design specifics, materials and manufacturing, and probably some ballpark costs.  Or you can talk directly to manufacturers.

It can take a lot of money to get off the ground, depending on what you're proposing to make.  There's some truth to what jwb says but the costs of a patent isn't really that much compared to all the other money you're going to spend.
