Thanks Obama for a wonderful program
« on: September 16, 2010, 10:28:31 PM »

This is why we have problems in budgets and finances in California, and especially Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Despite lingering unemployment, audits released by the Los Angeles city controller found that two departments which received $111 million in federal stimulus dollars have only created 55 jobs so far.

The reports by City Controller Wendy Greuel looked into how the Department of Transportation and Department of Public Works used millions in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.

The transportation department received $40.8 million and created or retained 9 jobs while public works received $70 million and created 45 jobs.

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

I have to crack up. If these fucking morons weren't so greedy, they could have created twice as many jobs if they hired 111 workers to stay home and do nothing at 1 million dollars each.

Are you brain dead fucks ready to acknowledge that the "stimulus" is the biggest farce of economic legislation in recorded history?

L.A.: $111M in Stimulus Saved Just 55 Jobs

Jan 29: A stimulus project roadsign is posted on Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood, Calif.

More than a year after Congress approved $800 billion in stimulus funds, the Los Angeles city controller has released a 40-page report on how the city spent its share, and the results are not living up to expectations.

"I'm disappointed that we've only created or retained 55 jobs after receiving $111 million," said Wendy Greuel, the city's controller. "With our local unemployment rate over 12 percent we need to do a better job cutting red tape and putting Angelenos back to work."

According to the audit, the Los Angeles Department of Public Works spent $70 million in stimulus funds -- in return, it created seven private sector jobs and saved seven workers from layoffs. Taxpayer cost per job: $1.5 million.

The Los Angeles Department of Transportation created even fewer jobs per dollar, spending $40 million but netting just nine jobs. Taxpayer cost per job: $4.4 million.

1. Bureaucratic red tape: Four highway projects did not even go out to bid until seven months after they were authorized.

2. Projects that were supposed to be competitively bid in the private sector went instead went to city workers.

3. Stimulus money was not properly tracked within departments

4. Both departments could not report the jobs created and retained in a timely fashion..

"I would say maybe in a grade, a B- in creating the jobs," Greuel told Fox News. "They have started to spend those dollars but it took seven months to get some of those contracts out. We think in the city that we should move quickly and not in the same usual bureaucratic ways."

Guys, you've got to give Obama a break and be patient.  The stimulus will in the end, some how, save the entire country $1.50, and create 10 new jobs.

I could be wrong. Maybe I am reading too much into Wendy Greuel's quote but I don't think those jobs were created. Those are just jobs that were saved. People who were about to get laid off got to stay.

This is what she said:   "I'm disappointed that we've only created or retained 55 jobs after receiving $111 million," said Wendy Greuel, the city's controller. "With our local unemployment rate over 12% we need to do a better job cutting red tape and putting Angelenos back to work."

RETAINED?  I don't think the program created 55 jobs. It may have TEMPORARILY saved them.

Either way, the stimulus is a failure.

It highlights how bloated and inefficient bureaucracies have become.

It's corruption.

I'll get hell from some of you for this but this is what I believe, Obama and the progressive camp need the economy to fail, they need it in worse shape than it is now. The desire and hope is that if it's bad enough the people will cry and beg for all the government help they can get, allowing the government to take more and more control.

This is the hope and desire IMO and it can work to the benefit of the government to reach this end but the spirit of the American people is very different than that of many other places, be that a good thing or bad thing is not part of the argument, but that spirit will not allow that to happen and will not let that plan of Cloward & Piven take hold...and we're beginning to see that now.

What is worse - this or the African ball washing program?

Both are horrific! Up there with these classics:

Wake Forest University Study on how Monkeys react under the influence of cocaine.  This project received $144,541

"Dance Draw" - Interactive Dance Software Development (Charlotte, NC) - $762,372

Abandoned Train Station Converted Into Museum (Glassboro, NJ) - $1.2 million

California Academy of Sciences to send researchers to the Southwest Indian Islands and east Africa to study Ants - $1.9 million

Montana State University to send students to China for the study of Dinosaur Eggs - $141,002

A Public Relations firm based in New York, Ketchum, Inc., received Stimulus money from the Department of Health and Human Services to promote health information technology - $25.8 million

Two Texas Universities, Rice University and the University of Texas at Dallas, received $193,956 in Stimulus funds  from the National Science Foundation to study voter’s perceptions of the Stimulus  (LOL!!!!)

A tunnel to nowhere in Pittsburgh, PA that even Governor, Ed Rendell called “a tragic mistake” - $62 million

Given to replace a new sidewalk that leads to a ditch in Boynton - $89,298

Need I go on? I can go on for hours on this one!
