Observation about Guillard
« on: September 25, 2010, 07:42:39 PM »
OK- obviously my claim that his fight would win FOTN was in jest.

But, did anyone notice he fights exactly like Rashad minus the take down attempts?

Ugh-- I was rooting for Stevens hardcore. He wasn't agressive enough. He gave way, way , way too much respect to Guillards takedown ability.

Guillards performance is a microcosm of why I hate Rashads fights. Pussy ass strikes with no power, running from exchanges and absolutely no agression whatsoever. I will say though-- Guillard isn't even on Rashads level of agression. At least Rashad tries to take guys down and occasionally tries to Gnp or get a submission.

Guillard is like a faggy Meywhether impersonator who can wrestle. I hope he loses his next 5 fights in a row.

Greg Jackson basically transformed him into yet another conservative point fighter, he was on his bicycle the whole night while Stephens pushed the fight.  The difference is Guillard has been kinda spoon fed lately.  He beat a can making his debut in his last fight and afterwords called out Jeremy Stephens (while lil heathen is good, he's a brawler who never uses wrestling or bjj instead favoring brawling).  So now Guillard wins yet another controversial decision (Torres and Tibau recently both did enough to deserve wins over Melvin).  Now Melvin is calling out Gomi, who is a bad ass, but is notorious for standing and banging rather than using his wrestling and bjj (although Gomi is way more dangerous than Stephens).  Guillard keeps handpicking his opponents to his specifications rather than calling out the true top 155ers who can do it all.  Joe Silva should quit listening to that cocky crack head and throw him to the dogs again, he's about due for his yearly guillotine loss.

I was thinking they should feed him to Dunham or Sherk.

That would be funny to watch, I hope they go that route.  Melvin's starting to become his own matchmaker and neither of these guys would be part of his plans if they give him his own way again.  I would like to see him against either of the above mentioned, or Tyson Griffin, Cole Miller,Charles Oliveira, Kenny Florian,Kurt Pelligrino or G-sot just to name a few, but he won't fight any of them because of the wrestling or sub ability.

I agree overall here about good old Melvin "Me and Dana are Brothers so I'll always fight in the UFC" Guillard. Followed Mel for a long time...only positive is he at least is no longer getting sub'd by janitors all because he used to rush in with reckless abandonment. Sad part is I kinda liked that about him.

He has now become the paint on that wall you'd rather watch dry twin.

I agree Guillard has a ton of potential, but just don't know if mentally he can take it much further. IMO, once he tastes success for a while, his weak mindset will take over once again. Maybe not...He is in the right camp though. If Jackson can't make him successful, he will be destined for Strikeforce.
