The labor union SEIU has become the first to inject Meg Whitman's former nanny into the campaign for Governor of California, with a slashing Spanish-language ad tying the situation to a Republican primary that pushed her farther right than she'd begun on immigration.
"Meg Whitman says she’s a different kind of Republican, but Pete Wilson is in charge of her campaign," says the narrator. "Whitman attacks undocumented workers to win votes, but an undocumented woman worked in her home for nine years."
"Whitman says one thing in Spanish --- and something different in English," says the ad. "The real Meg Whitman has no shame. She’s a two-faced woman."
The ad, it says, is part of a $5 million independent expenditure campaign targeted solely at Hispanic voters. That's real money, even in California.
The ad begins airing Saturday on Spanish-language stations in Los Angeles and Fresno, the union says.
