What did Gorilla have against Pat Patterson?
« on: December 15, 2009, 11:20:24 AM »
In this clip from the tag team thread, three old time wrestlers, Rene Goulet, Tony Garea, and Pat Patterson; come into the ring to help break up the brawl.

Gorilla Monsoon is doing the commentary and immediately goes after Patterson, "Is that Pat Patterson in there? Boy, did he get fat!" It's hilarious. Even the other announcer starts laughing.

The point is that Gorilla travelled with these guys. It's not like he hadn't seen Patterson in ages.

It starts at about the 6:45 mark:

Chalk it up to professional criticism.

Maybe Pat once "propositioned" Gino.
 ;D :-X

I would suspect that not many guys would have tried that with Monsoon.

More than likely, it was just some kind of backstage rib.

Monsoon was a big boy back in the day. Well over 400lbs. No one messed with him. I agree with you on the backstage rib. Back in the eighties, they ribbed eachother all the time.

Yeah, I don't think Gorilla would have gone for the, "Pat on the Back," as I've heard it referred to.

Maybe he did; I honestly don’t know.

There are plenty of stories about Patty Patterson propositioning some of the boys (men) in the locker room.
But, I highly doubt that guys like Monsoon & Andre were among those approached.

It was well known that Monsoon was a very devoted family man, and Andre loved & destroyed many a vagina in many a town.

Both men would probably have taken Pat’s antics as an insult.
And you don’t want to piss off a couple of real life giants.

Rib or no rib, the one guy no one messed with back stage...actually two guys. Andre the Giant & The Undertaker. These two men are (and in Andre's case) feared backstage. Prior to WM3 Hogan was shitting his pants so bad that he puked in a garbage can because he didn't know what the outcome was going to be for his match with Andre. And they were close friends! Finally minutes before their match Andre approached Hogan and said "Slam me, boss. The undertaker has given many guys "tune ups" over the years as Vince's backstage enforcer.

It's always interesting to hear the different versions of the same stories from guys who were there.
EVERYONE - including Hogan (albeit not in as much detail ;)) tells basically the same story about WM III.

Taker's backstage role(s) is the stuff of legend, for sure.

Have also heard similar stories about the APA. I remember when they did Bagwell the one night in the ring. Of course, you never know how much of what you hear is accurate, but you could see they stiffed the shit out of him during the match. That makes the rest of the story believable enough for me.

Monsoon just had a ton of respect from everyone - I think, including Vince.
Heenan & Piper have told several stories about Gorilla. He sounded like a kind, generous, and gentle giant whom you really did not want to piss off.

Good call on the APA backstage Mont. I forgot about them. They too had "a role" backstage to keeping people in check when their ego's got outta control. Then Taker took over.

I suspect that Taker may stay on with the Fed in some capacity after his in-ring tenure ends.
I also believe that, should he stay in the company, he will always be a figurehead to the boys backstage; not necessarily because they will always physically fear him, but because they will always respect him - ALWAYS!

Taker has worked long & hard to carve out an incredible reputation with the fans, management, and the locker room.
I have a hard time believing he will walk away from all of that completely.
