This in time progressed into a Bizarro level of delusionality, where he is not only uber positive, but he sees himself as better than normal people---you know the ones who make fun of him. It's his way of putting down the people who put him down in the past. Maybe his mother had told him as youth, that he is "better" than those people...you know that whole moral shit mothers pump into our heads
