Historic Election
« on: November 03, 2010, 04:37:40 PM »
Yes, this mid-term election was historic. Like it or not, love it or hate it, this was an historic election. The MSM will and is doing its best to spin and belittle it but the fact remains, it was historic.

*The largest turn over in the house since 1948

*The first time an outside group from the establishment parties has had any real effect in 100yrs.

*For the first time in my lifetime that I can remember, and probably in most of yours, someone hated and despised by the media, someone deemed hated by most Americans, hated by the majority of the left and even some on the right, has a bigger influence on the election than perhaps anyone else, and this person wasn't even running for anything...yes, I'm talking about Palin and to even insinuate that she did not have a massive effect is either stupid, naive or an outright lie.

I agree.  This was an incredible repudiation of Obama.  It clearly shows the majority of the country is not left of center like he is.

And I completely agree about Palin.  You have to be pretty blind, or a hack (or as you say stupid or a liar), to not see how much of a positive impact she had on the election.

Not sure about it being the largest turn over in the house but I'll take your word for it.
On your second point, that's not true.  Ross Perot definitely had an effect.

Sarah came up huge.  I have liked her from day 1.  I took a ton of shit in 2009 for liking her, even while everyone was piling on.

Not as many are laughing now as they see she is a gamer and can rally the troops to victory.

The turn over in the house is simple numbers. Hard to argue that this wasn't the largest turnover in nearly 70yrs when the numbers show it absolutely was.

You're right, Perot had an impact and I guess we could argue this point for a long time but I see Palin's impact to be even larger. Perot, one man who was running for office, took a chunk of the votes in his first race...not as much his second go around but definitely a large impact in the first, he may indeed have caused George H. W. Bush his re-election. Then there's Palin, one woman, who was not running for office, influences and affects races all over the country...pretty big IMO.

On the first point, I wasn't arguing with you, just saying I don't know the exact numbers of past shifts so I'll take your word for it.
On the second point, you just said that it was the "first time" an outside group has had an impact on the established parties in the last hundred years.  I was just pointing out with one example that this was obviously not the "first time" in the last hundred years.  Not attempting to argue which was greater.

Biggest since 1936.  GOP heading to get 65 seats now, which is massive, especially when you consider where the picks were.

OK, I see what you're saying now. I do however disagree, I don't think the Perot movement comes anywhere close to what the tea party has done.

you're attempting to determine which is greater.  I was only addressing this through your original statement.  You said it was the first time in the last hundred years, I just pointed out that it wasn't the first time and that's true, Ross did have an effect on the election.  Nobody can argue that he didn't.  Again, no attempt made to determine who had a bigger impact as that wasn't the point of the statement that I replied to.
