White House Gives In On Bush Tax Cuts

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama's top adviser suggested to The Huffington Post late Wednesday that the administration was ready to accept an across-the-board continuation of steep Bush-era tax cuts, including those for the wealthiest taxpayers.

That appears to be the only way, said David Axelrod, that middle-class taxpayers can keep their tax cuts, given the legislative and political realities facing Obama in the aftermath of last week's electoral defeat.

"We have to deal with the world as we find it," Axelrod said during an unusually candid and reflective 90-minute interview in his office, steps away from the Oval Office. "The world of what it takes to get this done."

I'm ashamed I voted Obama in 2008. I lost ALL hope, Obama betrayed the American people from the start. Obama appointed Summers, Geithner, Emanuel, Simpson and other Rubenite Wall Street insiders to rape America. Obama prevented investigation and prosecution of the criminals who caused this depression. Obama REWARDED thieving Wall Street and Bankster criminals with TRILLIONS of dollars. Obama gave few crumbs to the unemployed and no jobs, and refused tier 5 and more time using UNSPENT stimulus money intended for the rich. Obama sleazed in an insurance company bailout that leaves 60 MILLION Americans without health care today. Obama intended from the beginning to end Social Security, BUT continue failed wars and tax cuts and favoritism for the rich. Obama lectures that the glass is half full, but his rhetoric is all empty.

Democrats forsake 98% of America. They support tax cuts for the rich, wars and now an end to social security and medicare. The two extremists Obama put in charge of his fiscal commission unveiled the Obama plan that devastates the most vulnerable in our society, and it would put the squeeze on the middle class, veterans, the elderly and the sick - all to collect money for tycoon bailouts and the unfunded wars. Obama wants to cut benefits for middle class (median income) and poor folks the most. The Obama deficit plan would further cut taxes for the rich -- what the HELL does cutting taxes have to do with deficit reduction? Flush him.

Follow That's the final straw for me. 

Obama disappointed me by appointing Summers, Geithner, and renominating Bernanke.  He disappointed me when he didn't take on the banks.  He disappointed me by not fighting harder for universal health care.  He disappointed me by failing to help homeowners.  I have been wondering now for two years, just when is he going to stand up for the  Read More... Middle Class?  It took way too much pressure to bring Warren on board, and she's still not where she should be.  It becomes more apparent as time goes by that this President has been co-opted by Wall Street and Corporate America.

And before any accuses me of siding with the Republicans, think again!  I am now disgusted at both political parties.  After almost of decade of Republican recklessness that robbed from the Middle Class and gave to the wealthy elite, I cast my vote for Obama thinking that he would be a leader that would bring America back to the Middle Class.  I've now completely lost that hope.
Where is our hero/heroine?  Definitely not in the Republican or Democrat parties.  We The People face the prospect of losing our way of life, and all we have to choose from right now are Corporate controlled Republicans, Corporate controlled Democrats, or the_lunati­c_Tea_Part­y.  I choose none of the above!

At what point do We The People get fed up enough to start rising up like what we see in Europe?  It's time to take our anger to the elites who are robbing us!

I Love Barack Obama like he was one of my own children. I am the most liberal of progressives and have voted Democratic since George McGovern ran in 1972.....I think Nancy Pelosi is perhaps the most effective politician I have ever seen. But if they let this happen....I am gone. I will not vote for Obama in 2012. This is so hard for me to even contemplate,,,,but the "Bush" tax cuts are not negociable. Neither is health care. I hope desperately that the administration listens to the loyal followers like myself.

 yeah i voted for Obama WHY? WTF. He's been the greatest bait-and-switch ever. And even after 8 LONG years of Bush to get such an INCOMPETENT and INEFFECTIVE leader - a LIAR - is the final fuck you from the Dems so now I have one back - fuck you too Dems ya republican-lite bastards! I've had it. I'm joining my buddy urbuddha and Bernie Sanders - socialism is the only way - the Dems have, do, and will betray us. They have PROVEN it soooooo many times now I feel like Charlie Brown going to kick the football as Lucy just yanks it away. I don't know who's worse - the Dems for fucking us all AGAIN - or me for actually believing Obama's "hope and change" bullshit.

Well I HOPE we CHANGE leaders in 2012 to someone who is not republican, but is a real leader for the people - and that is NOT Obama - nor does it look like the Dems in general. Ugh.

Obama is the grifter leading off the 2nd half of the con game, which is to squeeze the rest of the dimes from the poor & middle classes. That began with part two of Bush's Medicare Reform Act of 2003 (high-priced junk health insurance that has no cost controls), and continues with his Debt Commission that's going to cut Social Security & Medicare, privatize the Social Security trust fund, then follow up with more *AFTA treaties which will outsource of the rest of Americans' jobs.

The White House is sharply denying the Huffington Post story I noted below claiming that David Axelrod signaled a willingness to accept a temporary extension of all the Bush tax cuts, claiming that their position remains unchanged.

Axelrod emails:

There is not one bit of news here. I simply re-stated what POTUS and Robert have been saying. Our two strong principles are that we need to extend the tax cuts for the middle class, but we can't afford a permanent extension of the tax cuts for the wealthy.

And White House comm director Dan Pfeiffer adds:

The story is overwritten. Nothing has changed from what the President said last week. We believe we need to extend the middle class tax cuts, we cannot afford to borrow 700 billion to pay for extending the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, and we are open to compromise and are looking forward to talking to the Congressional leadership next week to discuss how to move forward. Full Stop, period, end of sentence.
