No joke I mean realizing most of the people on here are a good bit older than me I have to wonder how long have you all been online. For me it's been since 99 I was 12.(had dial up since 94 but never was on it full time.

1991, 9600 baud dial up in dos.. those were the days!

it was just BBS' but some of them had usenet access, archie, gopher, ftp, text www, etc.

graphic web didn't exist until about 1993, everything before then was text based browsing, mostly universities and military/government sites

first web browsers (visual) were mosaic, netscape navigator, the text based ones were lynx and a slew of others.

its started in 1993, but before that there was BlackPlanet and MiGente those started in 1999, i used to jump on those to but not as much dude to me having dial up as well

1996 or 1997 for me I think when I was at university - I didn't have a clue what I was doing at first but I think I was using Netscape Navigator as my browser.

1994 and I fucking hated it after I got the bill   that was a ripoff... I tried some trial offer and after the first month got a bill over 300 bucks.  I think it was compuserve.

First time I ever surfed the internet was 1996 one afternoon in the University of Toronto labs.
My sister was getting yet another degree from U of T, and we were in the lab, so she let me connect and send an email to a cousin in England.

First time I got internet service from home was in 1998, and I started on cable.
Got mad at my cable company in 2002, and switched to 56K dial up.  Good grief what a shocker!
I couldn't get dsl in my area at the time, ...so needless to say, I went crawling back to the cable company with my tail between my legs until dsl finally came to my area. lol.

I remember the switch from dial up to cable... lol, it was like going from crawling to being in a ferrari, when cable first came out the speed had to be throttled because the computer's processor couldn't keep up to the speed, for instance when you were loading webpages or downloading files, the computer would get hiccups and sometimes freeze because so much data was being processed simultaneously.
