Obama calls airport pat-downs frustrating but necessary

President Obama at a news conference in Lisbon.

President Obama said today he sympathizes with passenger complaints about aggressive body pat-downs at airports, but his counter-terrorism aides say they are necessary to guard against hidden explosives.

Balancing privacy and security is a "tough situation," Obama told reporters at a news conference following the NATO summit in Lisbon, Portugal.

"One of the most frustrating aspects of this fight against terrorism is that it has created a whole security apparatus around us that causes a huge inconvenience for all of us," Obama said.

Obama cited the attempted airplane attack by the so-called underwear bomber last Christmas as justification for aggressive security measures.

The president said he has told officials with the Transportation Security Administration to constantly refine and evaluate their procedures.

"I will also say that in the aftermath of the Christmas Day bombing, our TSA personnel are properly under enormous pressure to make sure that you don't have somebody slipping on a plane with some sort of explosive device on their persons," Obama said.

TSA and counter-terrorism officials say that at this point "the procedures they've been putting in place are the only ones right now that they consider to be effective" against hidden explosives, Obama added.

Yes, I loathe Bush and that whole vile family.   Ask anyone here - I never have supported Bush other than on Alito/Roberts, some stuff after 9/11, and thats'about it.

He did some things right after 9/11, but that whole family needs to go back to Texas or whever the hell they are from and SSTTFFUU.

I a sick of all these RINO's like Bush, Rove, et al.    Don't get me started on that damn family.

No Security Pat-Downs for Boehner

Updated Representative John A. Boehner, soon to be the Speaker of the House, has pledged to fly commercial airlines back to his home district in Ohio. But that does not mean that he will be subjected to the hassles of ordinary passengers, including the controversial security pat-downs.

As he left Washington on Friday, Mr. Boehner headed across the Potomac River to Reagan National Airport, which was bustling with afternoon travelers. But there was no waiting in line for Mr. Boehner, who was escorted around the metal detectors and body scanners, and taken directly to the gate.

Mr. Boehner, who was wearing a casual yellow sweater and tan slacks, carried his own bags and smiled pleasantly at passengers who were leaving the security checkpoint inside the airport terminal. It was unclear whether any passengers waiting in the security line, including Representative Allen Boyd, a Florida Democrat who lost his re-election bid, saw Mr. Boehner.

At a Capitol Hill news conference after Election Day, as Mr. Boehner began laying out the changes he would make when he becomes House Speaker, he announced that he would continue to fly commercial airlines (usually Delta) back to Ohio. It was a not-so-subtle dig at the outgoing Democratic speaker, Nancy Pelosi of California, who had been criticized by Republicans for flying military airplanes when she returned home to San Francisco.

“Over the last 20 years, I have flown back and forth to my district on a commercial aircraft,” Mr. Boehner said at the time, “and I am going to continue to do that.”

And so on Friday, he did. But not without the perquisites of office, including avoiding those security pat-downs that many travelers are bracing for as holiday travel season approaches.

Michael Steel, a spokesman for the Republican leader, said in a statement that Mr. Boehner was not receiving special treatment. And a law enforcement official said that any member of Congress or administration official with a security detail is allowed to bypass security.

Yep. You hit the nail right on the head.

What Americans have to endure at the airport this year is no less harrowing than the holocaust.

I guess that's what we were all thinking.

1.  Parents were communists
2.  Mentor Frank Davis was a communist.
3.  Sought out marxist professors in college.
4.  Appointed Maoists as Czars
5.  Taught Alinsky (Communist) methds as a community organizer.

1.  Parents were communists (Proof? And does this mean all children of communists are therefore 100% communists for the rest of their lives? I don't think so)
2.  Mentor Frank Davis was a communist. (Not all mentees follow the same path of their mentors. See Aristotle and Plato)
3.  Sought out marxist professors in college. (Assuming he did, so what? I own Marx's books, doesn't mean I agree with communism)
4.  Appointed Maoists as Czars (This is too stupid to even address)
5.  Taught Alinsky (Communist) methds as a community organizer. (Proof?)

You want more?  I have plenty.

Ask GW or BF - they read it too.

Ask them if you don't believe me.
