When I was living in LA I knew some guys that were stunt men and some had worked with Seagal. They didn't care for him and felt he was cocky and arrogant. He also had this habit of just kicking people in the balls. He messed with the wrong guy one day in the form of Gene Lebell, and old school tough old bird who didn't take any shit of anyone. He promptly choked Seagal out unconscious and rumor has it that Seagal pissed in his pants while getting choked out.
Personally, I've always like Seagal movies and his screen persona. Kind of that no nonsense Clint Eastwood of martial arts. But man, is he out of shape. No wonder why he always wears those big black coats. It covers up a lot as you can see how fat he is when he is just wearing a tshirt when "instructing" Silva and Machida. When you are supposed to be a fighter or some kind of physical athlete and you are fat and out of shape it denotes a lack of discipline and a penchant for self-indulgence. I talked about Rickson Gracie in another thread and he would never eat so much that he stuffed himself. Even when we were at a buffet. He felt, as a martial artist, you should always be ready to fight. I know people today in our soft, complacent and self-indulgent culture today laugh at that kind of samurai code thing. Maybe it is silly in our supposed cultured, civilized and pampered lifestyle. Still, Rickson is always in shape and never fat. Something you should not be if you want to called "Sensei." Especially by world class fighters
Bruce Lee use to say that only in TMA (traditional martial arts) will you find people so fat and out of shape. (In comparison to other fighting disciplines like boxing, Muy Thai, Wrestling... because you simply cannot participate in those disciplines if you are not in some kind of physical shape).
