Serious question to Americans re Health Insurance
« on: November 29, 2010, 04:25:28 PM »
What do you pay for health insurance coverage? I got offered coverage through my new job but the premiums are going to cost like $170/ month. Seems steep to me, especially since I'm in Canada and the Insurance company doesn't have to worry about hospital charges.

I don't live in the USA or Canada.

I pay about 10$ per month for mine  ;D

Where do you live?

 Somewhere in Asia...

You North Americans are getting financially raped from about 10 different directions.

I had to get out of the US to truely realize it.

$170 a month???? Feel ultra lucky.  I had 11 full time employees in Hawaii and it cost me at that time I think around $384 each for insurance a month.

My health treatment is free.

My life insurance is worth about £50k if I die. I pay just over £5 a month.

Living in Asia is fucking awesome.

Americans are convinced the US is the greatest place on Earth. But man, it really isn't. When you fly the nest you start to realize how fucked up the US really is. Things you never really noticed before.

Yeah but if I am reading the policy correctly, they only cover like 20% of prescription drug costs. That's the lowest I've ever heard of. Usually it's like 80%. $170 a month works out to over $2,000.00 per year PLUS the 80% for prescription costs I'd have to pay. I've never needed to spend anywhere near that much on prescription drugs or any other health care. I think I'd be better off to put the $170/month aside in a savings account and use it as I need it.

Very easy. But finding a GOOD job is tricky.

I plan on staying out here for a while. This is life on Easy Street  ;D

and Asia is? ::)

I pay $340 per month for my family plan (BCBS) in America. It's a good plan though.

Did you have a Job lined up before you moved there originally, or did you move first and find work later?

You can do it either way.

The best way is fly out on a tourist visa and then find a job. That way you can see what you'll be getting into and meet the boss and all that.

Setting up a job from the US works in some countries, in other countries they will only hire people who show up in person, because so many people flake out on flying across the world when it's go time.

It depends exactly which industry you work in too. You can PM me if you want any specific info.

You people should seriously take a look at what hospitals in the US are charging your insurance companies. Insanity. Try not having insurance and that $170/mo will be a little bit of nothing.

Also consider that almost all poor people flake out on hospital bills, which makes prices double and more for the rest of us and the insurance companies.

Want health care to get a lot cheaper, really fast? Quit trying to prop up the poor and immigrants.

Well we have a csotly pseudo governmetn insurance system that sucks money in and doesnt produce a ncie working system.

Idiots here voed for a tol named obama that to ensure his legacy passed a bill called universal care but really simply making ti a law that everyone must buy from the same corrupt overpriced insurance corps.

silly

it will be repealed in 2013 when repubs back in power probably by mitt romney

Canada has smaller population than USA and a demadn side monoply on medical by a somewhat benevolvent government.   This seems to work but has only been runing for a while.

The model has yet to be tested in any state in the USA

If you're on a lot of medication , take it..it's a blessing, if you don't take anything then no, it's a waste of money

my health insurance covers all my legit doctor prescribed juice , so.. :)
