America's Number 1 Export, Entertainment?

someone had mentioned in another thread that American is the entertainment capital....basically, that American's #1 export is Entertainment. Is that what we've become, a nation that pretty much does movies,  TV shows, and various sorts of entertainment, better than anybody else? Is that why we spend tons of money on TV's, ipods, soundsystems, cars, etc...to pretty entertain ourselves and others?

Here in the UK the TV schedules are dominated by American movies, comedies and drama series.

You guys have much bigger budgets to play with when creating quality entertainment. Also, you get to pick from a huge talent pool of writers, actors and directors

The quality and production values of American Drama is way above anything produced here by our own broadcasters.

Shows like 24, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, Smallville, The Sopranos.

We can't make anything close to these and so that's why they are loved and watched around the world.
