Unrest in the middle east: Good or bad for Americans?
« on: February 20, 2011, 08:08:21 PM »
Your thoughts?  Are we better off if things remain the same as they are, with longtime dictators in power?  Or are our desires and gols better served with overthrows in many of these countries?

(my thinking is that gas prices alone - plus the fact the new govts are probably going to be more extremist, as calm folks don't typically overthrow govt - dictate that the status quo serves the desires of the average american)  What say you?

hopefully it give the nutty muslims something to do instead of suiciding our soldiers and planning attacks on the US for a couple years.

maybe one of them will royally piss off isreal and we can see what happens when you fight them without your hands tied behind your back.

Doubt it. If these regimes get taken over by even more extreme IslamoNazis then no, we're not better off. If not, then maybe. Of the 55 or so Muslim-ruled countries on the planet right now, 3 (yes, 3) qualify as democracies (and let's be honest, they barely qualify at that). These guys will inevitably be replaced by new dictators as Islam is completely incompatible with democracy. And it's not like the biggest problem in Iran is going down as the Mullahs have already started squashing their protesters.

And as much of a terrorist-financing, Sharia-promoting c*nt as Qaddafi is, he has never once shut down the oil flow like the tribesmen are threatening to do.
