Listen to the din from the ignorant flotsam. So what if Branch has 'won' contests. What a travesty that he should be considered to have a physique worthy of such prize money. Something stinks in this pastime and it has to do with the judges and whoever selects and instructs them. Bodybuilding is now rotten to the core. A sad state to witness in my lifetime.

Bodybuilding of today has become more of a freak show.....nobody wants to look like Branch Warren....he looks like shit.
During the golden age of bodybuilding people looked up to Arnold, Zane, Dave Draper, Mike Mentzer.....the list goes on and on...people wanted to look like these guys cause these guys had symmetry...a physique which was pleasing to look at....like those statues in Rome.
Even in the late 80`s and early 90`s guys like Haney, Yates, Shawn Ray had symmetrical physiques......and yates and haney really used to push the limits when it came to lifiting weights in the gym which is an aspect missing in modern bodybuilding where guys like Branch Warren and Jay cutler look like them mite have a heart attack any minute.

the Judging as has been vented out in other posts has gone down to such a low point...the judges should be asked if they are actually judging a bodybuilding show or WHO WANTS TO LOOK LIKE A FREAK CONTEST.

All this "Golden Age" stuff is quite ridiculous. The reality is that bodybuilders of the 50s and 60s (and their fans) were saying THE EXACT SAME THING about the "Golden Age" guys (Arnold, Sergio, Lou, et al.) that you're saying about today's bodybuilders.

It's the same old generation gap thing. The bodybuilders of the 50s/60s said that mess about the 70s bodybuilders; the 70s bodybuilders said that about the 80s bodybuilders.

The 80s guys said that about the 90s competitors. The 90s competitors talked that same smack about the dudes of the "aughts". And, now they're saying that about todays guys.

And, I can all but GUARANTEE you the bodybuilders of the 2020s will get this same criticism from the bodybuilders and their fans in this era.

And I can guarantee you that in 2020 bodybuilding will be even less popular than it is now. Whereas guys pushing the limit on 100m sprint, trying to go under 9.50s for example is exciting to the general public, 5'8" guys weighing 260 lbs and still trying to pack on more and more muscle simply isn't. Bodybuilding can't keep on evolving this way because first of all it doesn't appeal to people anymore, but also because it's impossible to pack on more muscle without increasing health risks exponentially. Eventually the government will step in and ban it and the IFBB and competitors will have no one to blame for that but themselves.

The difference is that it's not old timers saying the '90's were better, it's currrent day fans, media, and anyone else who follows bodybuilding.

Branch winning and winning means male BBing is going the of female BBing.

Always reward the most extreme look while talking about making bbing more mainstream

The IFBB used to come out and tell female bbers to go down a notch, and saying this time it was serious. Then contest time came and the same extreme bodies would win

I guess there are two possibilities:

1- IFBB/NPC see that bbing is forever shrinking (male and female) and decided to push the envelope in the traditional categories, while promoting countless newer categories i.e women (bikini, figure, fitness) and  mens physique- until at some point there is no money in the traditional categories--> no promoters--> fucking thing dies except as a side/freak show

2-The judges cant control their male/female schmoe impulses. The IFBB/NPC tells them to promote nicer looking physiques but these people are so ingrained in the whole thing that they keep rewarding the extreme physiques because they lost perspective

In any case the intermediate result is the same - in a few years there will be no money in male/female bbing.
Option 2 is actually quite possible as history is full  of people who committed group suicide because they just couldn't stop themselves from fucking up
