Obviously, drug use is a factor in hardcore, elite level, bodybuilding. Every Mr Olympia since Larry Scott won the first title in 1965, has used the enhancement drugs of their era. The reality is that we only have one Mr Olympia each yr while thousands of others train , diet and use similar drugs. If drugs were the end all/be all factor ,more bodybuilders would look a lot like that years Mr Olympia. They don't.
Every great bodybuilder has the right combination of size, shape and muscle separation to look incredible when on stage , under the bright contest lights. This look can only be "enhanced" by drugs , hard training and strict diet. For example, plenty of gym rats have been around 5'9" and been ripped at around 190 lbs. Only the top 0.1 of 1 % will ever look anything close to Frank Zane.
Arnold was Mr Olympia at a ht of 6'2" and around 225 - 235 in contest shape. Even at 90% of his heyday, he still looked pretty massive and impressive next to other pros with more pure mass and lower body fat% in the 1980 Olympia. Arnold spoke openly about how his body just flowed together and it "just worked" when on stage under the lights.
The reality is that the best bodybuilders are more then just numbers based on pounds of muscle and % of body fat.
If you have the right "look" under the lights, it will be obvious within the first few contests you enter.
Jay, Dexter, Victior,Heath, etc didn't have to ask, if they were good. After they hit the stage, they were TOLD by judges selections they had the goods. If you are an , impressive BB, others will let you know. You won't have to go out of your way to find out, trust me .
If NOT, keep enjoying bodybuilding as a hobby or lifestyle and find another way to make a living.
Don't waste your life, $$$ and energy on something that isn't within your grasp.
