Man Gets $1.4 Million After Wrongly Convicted of Killing Grandmother and Kids

Published July 02, 2011
FoxNews.com

A Texas man imprisoned for nearly two decades for the murders of a grandmother and five children that he didn't commit has received $1.4 million in compensation that the state previously denied, My Fox Dallas-Fort Worth reports.

Anthony Graves received the money Thursday during a private meeting with Texas Comptroller Susan Combs.

Combs later said she was "delighted" to pay Graves the money.

A 2009 Texas law gives inmates exonerated $80,000 for every year spent in prison. But Combs previously denied the compensation because the order clearing Graves lacked the phrase "actual innocence."

Graves has said he's grateful for the money, but it "doesn't even come close" to making up for the time he spent in prison.

I've heard Graves talk on our local radio here and I am impressed with how he has handled this. Very humble guy.

Apparently Fox News is leaving out a huge chunk of the story for some odd reason.  The real hero in making things right was Gov Perry.  That stupid bitch Susan Combs declined him the 1.4 million when he was released for a bullshit reason and then actually had the fucking nerve to have money taken from his bank account for for back taxes and child support for the time he was in prison in addition to taking his 250 dollar fee from a speaking engagement.  Here's the report right here.

The guy just got out of prison after being on death row for no reason, and she pulls this shit.  She needs to be removed from office

Gov. Perry has said since this case has come to light that he believes no innocent person has been put to death by the Texas Penal System. Graves contends they tried to and almost did do that on two occassions. I think Perry saw the writing on the wall and if he expects to run for president he needed to put this puppy to rest.

It is outrageous how this has been handled by the "system" and to withold money from him because they falsely imprisoned him and he couldn't pay child support is unbelievable...

  • Silence you furry fool!
No amount of money can give this man's (and any other wrongfully convicted/imprisoned) life back.
