I heard it said on here that Flex Wheeler's and Brian Buchanan's waists made them look fragile and not strong...when The Hulk is drawn he is shown as a wide waisted bruiser---a thick waist---aka stout to us. A small waist to us means, fragility or feminine...
In nature a small waist indicates fleetness, agility, and speed. The animals that best represent that are The Canids and the Cheetah...these animals have small waists (especially for the Greyhound), made necessary for running and agile movements...the waist is also strong to put up with the stress of these movements.

Stout waists, of course we know are good for stability---aka slow movements that require a steady base, and generally the subject not moving from place to place but within a space.

Depend on the physique.
Look at Dorians early years, his waist fit his physique, he had that powerful herculean Physique.
Just like Ronnie, in his early years, his tight waist fit perfectly with his sweeping muscle bellies, and frame.
I think the waist proportions are just like anything else, either it fits the physique or it doesnt.

Too small fucks it up, Buchanans waist IMHO was way to small, made him look weak and frail.

Its funny to me how many people get caught up in the whole black and white thinking. Very small minded. Someone can have a wider waist if it fits the physique, the herculean type. Dorian would look really odd with a very small waist I think.

I cant really think of a term to classify the Flex Wheeler/Ronnie Coleman type physique. Athletic doesnt seem to fit well, neither does artistic. Any thoughts people?

You know I love you Shockwave but you are fucking nuts , Dorian's waist was horrible and there is not such a thing as a waist to small in bodybuilding .
Saying that Buchanan waist was too small for bodybuilding , it's like saying John Holmes' cock was too big for porn.

Interestin' thread. Wide waist vs small waist. Easy as pie ! Small waist wins ( or rather SHOULD win ) everytime. The only time you should win with a wide waist is when your shoulders are as wide a Orville Burke's. Hell, a good example of a great bb'er with a wide waist and SUPER wide shoulders is a prime Markus Ruhl. As far as small waisted bb'ers looking like the wind will blow them over ... well ... lol ... cool ! Maybe that's why competitions are held indoors ? Lol ! Small waists still rule middle earth when it comes to bb'ing, fellas. Through and through.
