Help with Wireless Network Connection...

Could someone please help me with my wireless connection? I've never had problems with using it anywhere I've been until I started a new job recently. When I tried to connect it wouldn't and when I did a diagnostic analysis it said," wireless network doesn't have a valid ip configuration." I had the company IT guy look at it and he was clueless. Also, a couple other people at work with their laptops don't seem to have any problem getting a connection. Thanks

Not being a smartass but if the IT guy - a professional paid to deal with this shit as a career - couldn't fix it, a bunch of strangers on an internet muscleman website are probably not gonna be an improvement...

x2.  In addition the OP did not provide enough information such as his system configuration: computer, OS, router type and model number, etc.

You need to contact your wireless provider's helpdesk. They'll help you change the settings in your router which will fix the problem.

The IT guy acted annoyed that I was taking his precious time, so he didn't really seem to put much effort into it.  I've noticed that there's people in this forum that seem to know a lot about computers. Besides, it's BB related since I want to read Getbig while I'm working.

Make sure that your computer obtains the wireless IP number automatically...

Call the geek squad, they have a free 800 number and most of the time the person can talk you right through it. I had a issue and was gonna take my computer in,  called them, and they literally saved me money and time and was able to fix the problem really quick.

the router is not accepting DHCP requests.  Reboot the router if you can.

see what IP another working user has and try a static IP on yours if you don't have access to the router.

If all the addresses are leased then shutdown a co-workers laptop and try yours. 


as Bay said we need more info.  If you are just a user and wireless is not business critical I doubt IT is going to jump all over your issue.

I think the router lost its settings. Ping your ip and log into router then do settings over.

Maybe it had too much contact with Macs and caught the ghey.
