Back when Crocop didnt have a broken spirit...
« on: July 16, 2011, 08:20:33 PM »
Guy was ultra fast and tuff as nails, had that "i want blood" look in his eyes constantly too. Totally the opposite in the UFC now. Yes the game has evolved but also I guess the human body can take so much punishment after starting to crumble. MMA fighters have a span of 3-5 years fighting elite opponents, too harsh sport.

Still, for the good ole days, here goes some prime Mirko in a kick ass and very well done highlight.

He got older, for one thing. Lost motivation to fight. Much like Tyson. But, yes, CC was an ANIMAL back in PRIDE days. God, how I miss PRIDE fights !!!!!!! :( :( :(

me too man. I follow MMA since Royce Gracie and the first UFCs and stuff but for some reason PRIDE has that special place in my memory, as if it was there where it all started. Also the ring makes the sport much more classier than the fucking octagon cage and stuff.

I couldn't agree more. And for a person from ( if I remember correctly ? ) S. America, you definitely know what your talkin' about. Much respect. Each PRIDE fight wasn't JUST a fight. It was a damn event. Lol. You remember the crazy lady ? The fight announcer ? God, I miss her. Lol.

Quite simply, UFC doesn't have shit on PRIDE. And, yes, I realize I might be flamed for this statement. :D

So true. At least they didn't have to market it towards a shitty redneck subculture like the UFC.

The tournaments were the best.

When he was a killer (in real life) he was a killer in the ring, but after he got out of the special forces
and got into politics he got soft.

PRIDE was the shit, nothing will ever compare to it. It gave the sport class and made it seem more credible, was like the Olympics of MMA. UFC reminds me of a high school wrestling tourney with drunken uneducated fans.

I'm a fan of CroCop, and even to this day. However, I'm not sure what really changed his fighting to crumble? Granted in Pride he was young, new guy and hungry. Then he came over to UFC (which is all about money and not the athletes, you see the same fighters aka "the superstars" getting recycled for the main events over and....over) and it just went downhill from there.

Who knows...could it be the retarded octagon and not the classic fighting ring, the rules? Maybe he switched management or trainers? I dont think it has so much to do with his age, I mean take a look at Randy Couture for example still doing his thing.

By the way awesome clip, thanks for sharing.

Not all of them. I was with Rampage all day yesterday that man is just as driven now as he was back then. Him vs. Jones is going to good!

Rampage is one of the few guys left. He has an iron chin. Hasn't taken the amount of abuse some of the others have. Guys like Wand, Cro Cop, Noguira, have been fighting longer have been in more wars.

Cro Cop was not a very good fighter pretty much ever... when you're talking about heavyweights, you're talking about guys who have more size than skill to begin with, and he was always second tier. Guys like Sefo, Aerts etc were all on another level than Mirko, and you shouldn't really trust results in Pride fighting, that was a half fighting half pro wrestling company, everything was fixed to some extent.

Too old, slow and small. Whats Page 6'0"? Jones is 6'5" and has way to much reach on Jackson. Hes going to get steamrolled, easily. No LHW will beat Jones, their all too puny.

Maybe maybe not, Its going to be a good fight. If Jones wins it will be on the ground not striking.

I've seen it, Bill. I'll you one thing ... I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that kick ! LOL ! Of course, CC got a taste of his own medicine when he went up against Gonzaga, if you remember. Lol.

That to this day was the biggest shock ever in MMA for me. When I checked sherdog after the fight, (since it was showed early), I was sure it was some sort of joke. It took me a few minutes to comprehend what happened lol. Couldn't believe it. Used his own finishing move to take him out... fucking craziness.
