The record of history is not crystal clear, as he claims. (eg, the Florentine dowry investment scheme - socialist or capitalist?) Hence the continuing debate. Even dyed in the wool capitalists concede that complete privatization of things like the fire department, the military, the police force, the courts, the legislature (or are we there already?), etc, are crappy ideas, as evidenced by history. Similarly, even hardcore Marxists admit the dischord inherent in fighting the tide of natural economic forces. We are all moderates.
Fwiw I'm not too well acquainted with Friedman's thinking but his theory of contracting money supply as a precursor to economic slowdown kinda strikes me as saying that blood loss is a precursor to exsanguination.
