End of era's.
« on: September 05, 2011, 11:35:28 AM »
So I was just reading swede's thread on why music today sucks. I of course can up with the truly original idea(fact ;D), which was all the taste testers/music coniseurs, went online for the top quality. This meant the labels lost a whole lot of social capital. The social capital that matters atleast when it comes to delivering a higher quality feedback .

That being said I have to ask at what point did bodybuilding lose the greatest amount of social capital. Was it when all the kids realized these guys don't get chicks, was it when the steroid scandals of the early 90's, the gh/slin invansion, thoughts anyone?

To answer your second part...MMA has a lot to do with it, as they both share the same base. Ironically, there are more juiceheads than ever in the gyms...
Quality has gone down immensely...Shawn Ray, Ronnie, and Flex were talking about this. There are many diff contributing factors.

As far as them not getting chicks, uh, Shawn Ray (who dated Brooke Burke) was a player, so was Flex, and so was Chris Cormier, and Alq Gurley. Dennis Newman had a beautiful wife, and so did Don Long (who was a stripper). Idrise Ward-El was a stripper who got plenty of women...and So did Craig Titus, as well as Chick. The women love Rich Jones and also love Phil Heath...so, saying the Pros don't get women is a misnomer.

MMA and bodybuilding's base is young, insecure males. That is what the mags and supps market to..."physical" maleness, and maleness thru fighting, the last bastion of "real" men. Many of today's youth, especially ones that get into bbing or MMA come from broken or single parent homes, or homes where dad ain't being a father...so men are strong or look strong, right? Men fight for dominance, correct. There you go.

In this day and age  bob paris would be gold for the sport. He's all about low doses on the drugs, actually has insight into real life, and the homo factor would be big for getting women on bored.
