I can't remember:  what in the hell precipitated that?

I thought Gandolfini did a fine job, but the panic attacks and depression were fucking stupid.  Ever seen an interview with the Richard Kuklinski, a.k.a. the "Ice Man" mob enforcer?  He would do anything for his family, but apart from that, the man had to conscience whatsoever.  The dude committed his first murder at fourteen and, before he got rid of the body, he took out the kid's teeth and chopped off all of his fingers (!).

I'm not suggesting Tony's quite that much of an animal, but he killed and ordered the killing of a shitload of people.  A man capable of such things is almost incapable of remorse.  He sure as heck wouldn't have panic attacks over the police sweating him or whatever.  Guys at that level don't give a shit.  They can't.

That said*, Tony whipped that kid's ass :)

*I'm still sore at The Sopranos for that fucked up series finale, and especially the show's creator, who basically gave the finger to anyone who didn't like it.  Real classy, bub  ::)

Tony got shot by Uncle Junior in Junior's home because his dementia was worsening and thought Tony was one of his old enemies. Tony spent a lot of time in the hospital, almost died and was really weak for some time. After he got out he thought that his crew were treating him "different" and kinda second-guessing him which they wouldn't have done before and he thought that due to getting shot (again) he appeared weak in their eyes. So, he needed to somehow re-assert his authority and basically provoked the strongest guy around into a fight.

You're right about the contradiction, Tony killed seven people throughout the series, but we also saw him doing incredibly caring things, including showing affection for animals.

As far as I remember the panic attacks were related to psychological issues related to his mother, rather than external events like the police sweating him

LOL. So, I take it you are a proponent of the theory that Tony got his brains splattered by that Italian assassin, eh? :)

I argued for months that he survived but got beaten down. He's dead - until they all get desperate and do a new series in a few years...

Excellent TV series, although the episodes Steve Buscemi produced sucked ass. Always hated the episodes with Joe Pantoliano (played Ralph Ciffaretto) in them.

Wanted to eat Drea de Matteo's pink for a very, very long time.

You brought up a lot of issues man :)
I agreed with Chase for doing things the way he did. His reasoning was that the same viewers who cheered Tony as he did all those vile things during the series wanted to finally cheer as he went down.

On the other hand, Tony could not not go down, having done all those things.

So instead, he created that ending were it is subtly implied that Tony got whacked, but not explicitly shown, so as not to give the viewer the satisfaction.

I was slightly miffed as well with that ending, those whole last few minutes of the ending episode before the final moment were stellar, but it felt like fucking and in the end shooting your load onto the wall :)

Yeah, young dude could have finished Tony any time he wanted, if Tony wasn't a Boss.

If Tony was a regular fella that approached him in a bar like that, he would've been put down by a knucklesandwich.

Young dude had heaps of respect for Tony, of course.
You don't mess around with Tony.

What was he supposed to do? No matter it's a lose lose situation for the young guy. If he beats Tony, what will happen you think?
