I just cracked one off...

There's a dude from your neck of the woods named Paul Sellers whom you might dig. I haven't watched him for a couple years but really liked his vids. He's almost strictly a hand tools guy, which I found appealing for my project approach, as opposed to professionals who are economically obliged to prioritize production. And I don't remember him ever pimping shit like pretty much every other youtube woodworker I ever saw.
His convex chisel/plane grind method is spot on, although I confess to having mechanized it with 'linishers' at my sharpening/grinding table (the cheapest shit chinese things you've ever seen but I installed a tile under the belt so there's a true surface instead of their warped sheet metal). My chisels see horrible building site abuse sometimes and it's very satisfying to bring it back to a razor in 60 seconds after one of the lads decided he had to get through a nail or concrete snot. I'm just bragging now.
As much as I love the functionality of metal, and I'm fascinated by the precision that machine tools can achieve, woodworkers have to be attuned to aesthetic considerations from the time of materials selection. I shudder when I see shit like mdf mouldings and am prone to violence when I see grain print plastic. I once had to be removed from the premises when I overheard a guy asking if he could make a burl tabletop 'as shiny as a mirror' by pouring epoxy on it. Guess I was yelling something about running him through a laminating machine.
