wich would be better for over all health

if i did the first diet "atkins" it wouldnt be pure no car just lowish carb

the second diet wouldnt be no fat but some fat

i currently do the second diet but have given thoughts to changing it up to the first style

i think i would highly dislike the first diet but i have no clue how well i would respond. would the sacrifice be worth the reward?

both diets= unlimited calories , these are pure eating styles wich you just eat as needed no restrictions on energy consumption

JF,

If your goal is to loose body fat (without the use of drugs) then the best thing you can do is no fad diet at all.  Figure out how many calories you are currently eating in a day as step one.  Then reduce overall calories according to your needs-goals.  Do so gradually too, like in increments of say 200-500 calories at most.  Otherwise it might be too much of a shock all at once to go from say 6,000 to 2,000.

I think calorie counting is a must because no matter what you are eating, if you are overeating then your body will store it as lard.   ;)  Plus adding some cardio into the mix that gets your heart rate up for at least 20 mins minimum will help too.  Physical exercise combined with a sound diet is always best.

As far as low carb vegetarian vs. high carb vegetarian ... I think that depends on your activity level and goals.  For example, if you need crap tons of energy to go swimming for hours on end then high carb is probably best.  For me I figured out what my protein needs were first (about .65 grams per lbs of body weight works for me) then the rest is mainly carbs with some small percentage being fats.

No drugs = no good. I didn't read your post to be honest.

If you're trying to get rid of grandma's muffin top then this may be fine and dandy but this is a bodybuilding board. Falcon needs some testo and tren to spread those wings and fly.

Are you aware that the original Atkins diet is all protein and fat with no carbs on the first stage of the diet? It might be possible to go on Atkins as a vegetarian if all your protein was from milk, beans (like soy), cheese and eggs....possibly whey protein, although most packaged whey protein products contain a fair amount of carbs. You'd be getting plenty of fats from most of the above protein sources, but if you needed more, there is always olive oil for good fats.

Once you reach full on ketosis from the absence of carbs and you've lost a fair amount of weight, you can add in small quantities of complex carbs on the Atkins diet. However, the mainstay of this diet continues to be high protein and low carbs.

For more information on the Atkins diet and ketosis, go here: http://weightloss.about.com/cs/atkinsbasics/a/aa052803a.htm

It goes without saying that beer is not on the diet. Nor are other alcoholic drinks all of which are just a bunch of carbs anyway.

Dustin, you are correct but I wrote a response assuming he was just wanting to loose fat and get rid of the grandma muffin top.  But maybe JF has some other ideas... I dunno.   ???

Atkins isn't NO carb, never has been. It is low carb. My advice is to educate yourself on the Atkins Diet before attempting it.

The Atkins induction phase of the diet my not be no carbs, but it is really restricted carbs. Here's an excerpt from the Atkins diet induction phase:

Quote
What Foods can I Eat on Induction?
Foods that can be consumed liberally during the induction phase are: fish, fowl, shellfish, meat, and eggs. You can also have a certain amount of some cheeses.
Additionally, you can eat 20 grams of carbohydrate a day.

You can eat two to three cups of salad a day comprised of the particular vegetables Dr. Atkins specifies, which include (but are not limited to): escarole, fennel, radicchio, cucumber, lettuce, and mushrooms.

Yes, phase 1 is restrictive but allows 20 carbs..

Having talked to many a person fighting the weight issue who were interested in Atkins when I used it to drop 50 lbs back in 2003, I really have to stress the education portion of it. Too many quickly jump into Atkins without understanding it and when they fail, they blame Atkins.

It usually starts like this
Them: "I did Atkins and I didn't lose weight"
Me: "Really? You kept at or below 20 carbs and didn't lose weight?"
Them: "Well, I couldn't give up tortilla chips and had to have my pasta but other than that, I was strict"
Me; "Then you didn't do Atkins"

OR

Them: "I did Atkins for 3 months and lost XX lbs, but then I gained it all back when I stopped"
Me: "then you didn't do Atkins, phase 4 is for life, its a life changing way of eating not a temporary diet"
