Ron Paul Wins Tennessee Presidential Straw Poll
« on: January 30, 2012, 01:04:23 PM »
LAKE JACKSON, Texas – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul easily defeated his rivals for the GOP nomination in a straw poll conducted by the Tennessee Republican Assembly.

The Tennessee Republican Assembly presidential straw poll featured in-person voting in Nashville on Saturday, January 30th.

Paul took first place with 63.3 percent of the 316 votes tallied, besting his GOP competitors – including the former House Speaker from Georgia Newt Gingrich, who placed third earning just 12 percent.  Rick Santorum with 19.6 percent, Romney with 4.7 percent, and Huntsman with 1 vote, came in second, fourth, and fifth place, respectively.

“This straw poll demonstrates that tea party members and conservatives nationwide are coalescing behind one candidate, Ron Paul, as the sole challenger and conservative alternative to Mitt Romney,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.  “Ron Paul is the one candidate in this race receiving authentic conservative support from Republicans, and he also garners the support of independents and Democrats that is so necessary to defeat Barack Obama.”

Voting results

Ron Paul 63.3%
Rick Santorum 19.6%
Newt Gingrich 12%
Mitt Romney 4.7%
Jon Huntsman 0.3%

Unfortunatley, the straw poll doesnt take GOP handling into account.
Theyve already said they wont allow him to win.
I feel that theyll make sure he doesnt win even 1 state - they wont want him to pick up steam to the point where theyll have to do something so blatant to make sure he loses that people notice - last thing they want is the general public picking up on the corruption.

Ron Paul is the only one I will volunteer and campaign for.

I would rather take my chances with Paul than any one else.

Yeah, it's pretty disgusting. There's audio recordings if Psul supporters being completely ignored in 08. It's hard to believe they can get away with shit like that.

Assuming the validity of the straw poll to begin with.

Remember, this poll (and most if not all Straw Polls) is not subject to oversight or verification.

Repeatedly I see RP winning these.  Repeatedly he does significantly less.

I don't buy people magically changing their opinions due to media conspiracies or Rep leadership conspiracies.  If he did this well with the media ignoring him now, suddenly the media ignoring him later matters?  All of these people suddenly change their votes?  Doubt it.

So that leaves what?  I'm still not sure.

I still think he's the best of all the candidates though.  Sadly, none of the others seem to hold a candle to him on their best days.

What bothers me is when the GOP flat out says they wont let him win..
And then reports come in for voter fraud and miscounting in certain counties (see Iowa Caucas).
Things that make you go hmmmm

yea, that bugs me too and I hope it bugs Skip too.  When they are flat out talking about how they have their ways to make sure Paul won't do well... there's a big problem.  When corruption is so accepted you can talk about it openly, WTF...

And I don't think it's a long stretch to at least ask how far this goes?  There's a huge discrepancy between grassroots support/straw polls and just about all other polls not connected with a major polling services and what we see happen in the primary results.  That's pretty unique to Ron Paul oddly.  With all other candidates the straw poll and independent polling seems to reflect better than it does with Paul.

And don't forget, Paul doesn't do anything the other candidates don't do.  They also bus people to straw polls and send out info on what online polls to vote in etc...

Yeah, exactly this. I read an article 333 posted where they had someone on trial for voter fraud, and the guy simply said "Its not a big deal, both parties do it, its an accepted way of getting the right guy (read: the guy we choose) voted into office".

Thats the official moment I gave up on the American political system. I mean totally lost any hope.

Another thing that sets me off is how the right doesn't give a shit about election fraud when their guy wins and the left doesn't give a shit about it when their guy wins.  I have constantly called for everyone to care about these issues no matter what their party affiliation.  The only other person I can remember being equally ambitious in calling out the evils of election fraud without bias is 240.  Everyone fucking ignored or mocked us when we said years ago, "If we don't fix this now, it will come around to bite you and your candidate."  If I remember right, we both felt that honest elections are the most valuable thing we have as citizens and nothing is being done to guard that most valuable ability.

I electron fraud monitoring for the GOP every four years and I see shit like you can't believe.   I refuse to do it if mitt is the pick though.    when McNut was the pick I did it on my own dime in Pittsburgh in 2008 and slept on the floor for a few days solely because I liked Sarah and how horrid I knew Obama would be.

not this time if mittens is the nominee.
