I gotta say that 240 is right on this one. One oil rig is enough for me...it is blatantly obvious that BP didn't care about the rig's safety, and they lied about it! I think we need to find a solution to clean up any other potential underwater leaks before something else goes wrong. Disasters like this are way too many even once every 40 years. We will be feeling the repurcussions of this for years to come!
Dumpling, its not as easy as that. BP had a long track record of violations and skirting safety regulations, ALL WHILE OBAMA GAVE THEM WAIVERS FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR THIS VERY RIG!
No other companies have even remotely the record of BP on this.
I think we need to figure out ways to prevent this, but from what I have seen, BP is the issuem, not drilling itself since they used cheap engineering, skirted safety regs, etc.
There are literally thousands of these rigs all over the world with never a problem. I say fix the leak, deal with the spill, figure out ways to deal with this problem and have every company submit updated plans, etc, and allow the drilling to continue so we dont force hundreds of thousands of more out of work.
