Okay I'll go first. Evan is the best BB competing today. John Mayer is the best guitarist playing today. Both like to ramble on about themselves because it makes them money. One looks like a jacked up version of the other, I implore the hive of negativity that is getbig to be fascinated by this!!

I heard his first album and then saw him on TV talking about when he's onstage he pretends to be SRV, that is what he aspires to be. I nearly ruptured my spleen laughing so hard. Then I heard him play a song "Covered In Rain" I think and realized the guy was the sensitive person you hear on that album.

While I don't think he is the best around as IT claims, he is good. He does what he does, doesn't claim to be the next Hendrix or SRV. But he idolizes them and has fun with what he's doing onstage. Talented guy, good writer and a good player.

Okay so my "best" claim was designed to irritate. Evan is probably like the 10th best BB on his day, but I do happen to think JM is pretty much the best current guitarist still releasing new material. Anyone who disagrees just hasn't seen enough of his stuff yet. You think Pino Palladino, Steve Jordan, Buddy Guy, BB King and Eric Clapton would play with this foo if he was just a schmaltzy fake sensitive ballads guy (which he also is)?!?!

Youtube Joe Bonomassa.

Mayer isn't talentless, but he's like a Gap version of a guitarist if you know what i'm saying.

Bonamassa is good, but big rock-style speed playing on a les paul is much easier, if you can even measure it - which you can't, than Mayer's groove-laden subtlety on a strat with single coils. I appreciate Bonamasser has a certain buzz about him, because he sounds like Gary Moore, and played with Danny Gatton at a young age, but he has little dynamics because he's always doing big loud rock solos with tons of gain and delay and stuff.

Watch these 4 minutes, pretty inventive, without resorting to speed, even though he can play hella fast if he wants to.
 Just the groove is badass.

john mayer is probably the best guitar player from generation nothingness , clapton for exemple is still playing and at 67years old he could make better music than john.
john is genius if we compare him to generation nothingness to bieber or gaga of course because who still playing guitar nowdays ?
it's like a competition with only one competitor, it's normal that it will be one winner in this case is mayer

Why does Mayer and most guitar players make such strange faces when they play their instrument.  Its awful.

Cool so you agree with me.

I think like probably every 3rd guy on earth has dabbled with guitar so to be the best currently on earth is still an achievement of sorts.

I dunno, have you ever played an instrument? Or had emotions whilst playing music? I godda tell you "man I'm good at this" is a pretty strong emotion when you're really in the moment!  ;D

I wouldn't really call that inventive. He just plays a loose cover of "Machine Gun". Guy is talented but i think greeneyes is right when he calls him  part of generation nothingness. I feel you'd hear Mayer as you were buying a latte and muffin in Starbucks. Not his fault i guess. The world could do with more of his like than more justin biebers and pitbulls.

As for Bonomassa's sound. All to do with the fact his influences mainly come from British Blues rock. Thanks to the JB youtube trawl you set me off on, i'm gonna take the opportunity to see him at the end of the month. So thanks!

You don`t find it rather strange?  I don`t see violinists or fiddlers doing those god awful faces ever.

Greg Howe is the best living electric guitarist IMO.

Done it all. 80's Shred, Jazz, Pop, Funk. Stellar technique and an ear for melody.

They make them too. Just not as pronounced as a guitar player. In the early days of rock guitar, it became fashionable to make those faces and it's never went away. Compare that to violin players who are usually brought up with more of a studious and well-mannered disposition, they find it more impolite to make the faces you hate. Not all players do it, but a majority do it in some form.

I can put up with it when it's a virtuoso.

It is a tad self-indulgent you're right, and maybe a bit of a contrived gimmick sometimes. In Mayer's case he has tons of retarded flaws, but is so ridiculously good at guitar it's untrue, I guess this annoying contradiction was part of my original post.

I know some is involuntary just by the way muscle to brain synapses are fired.  I notice sometimes I tend to bite down hard when using a chainsaw without even realizing it.
