Romney taking credit for auto industry success
By STEVE PEOPLES, Associated Press

Mitt Romney is saying that he deserves "a lot of credit" for the resurgence of the American auto industry.

That claim comes in spite of Romney having argued that Detroit should have been allowed to go bankrupt.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee tells a Cleveland television station that President Barack Obama followed his lead when he ushered auto companies through a managed bankruptcy.

Romney has repeatedly made that argument. But he went further on Monday by saying he deserves credit for the recent successes of the auto industry.

Romney opposed the use of federal funds that helped auto companies survive the bankruptcy process. Obama and others say using taxpayer money was the only option.

The Obama campaign says Romney should have "the courage and integrity" to admit he was wrong.

Ex-Mich Guv Granholm to Mitt Romney: Stop lying about saving auto industry

As the former Guv of Michigan during the darkest days of the auto industry, Jennifer Granholm admits that she has “a particular animus” towards Mitt Romney, who “”knifed us in the back when Michigan was on its knees.”

So you can understand how Granholm, who now lives in the Bay Area and teaches at UC-Berkeley, really got ticked when she heard Romney saying he would “take a lot of credit” for the auto industry’s comeback.

“There are politics, there are lies, and then there is you,” Granholm said Tuesday her filmed-in-San Francisco Current TV show “The War Room with Jennifer Granholm.” “You take it to a whole new level.”

In this clip from Tuesday’s show, check out how the Democrat Granholm shredded the Republican Romney in an ex-guv-on-ex-guv beatdown that ain’t often seen:

“It’s ironic that on a day in which we focus on the auto industry, we’re debating the merits of a guy who exhibits all the cliches we unfairly assign to used car salesmen,” Granholm said. “Just stop it… Stop taking credit for the success of the Obama administrations’s intervention to save the auto industry and over a million jobs that went with it.”

yeah, "let them go bankrupt" was pretty bad.

"I'll take credit for that" is about ten times worse.  he was against the bailouts.  they were the reason the industry recovered.

I dont know why he would say this.

Yeah, Granholm, who contributed to the decimation of Michigan (by the way its getting better now that Michigan got rid of her) , she needs to take her fucking hood off.

Romney is right. I dont know why you people cant understand this. The company went through a managed bankruptcy. It ended up doing exactly what he said they should do. Things would have been far better if the government had done nothing. But now you got companies like Chrysler where seniority creditors got shafted by the Obama administration, which hurts future finance by creating uncertainty.
