Do you need a service contract to use an IPhone?
« on: May 16, 2012, 04:28:00 AM »
yes yes i know, im outed for contemplating using an iphone... anyways, can you use an iphone without having a service contract ?

if you want the long version, this chick im banging has a iphone 4 ( from sprint i think) , and she wants to get the new iphone 4s ... she said her contract for the iphone 4 expires i think end of next month, but she cant wait that long anymore and wants to open a second line on her account and buy the iphone 4s, only if i pay her next months sprint bill... no im not paying for her shit, she will GIVE me the old iphone and i will use it, so i will be pretty much paying for MY phone ( if that makes sense). the thing is i dont need a second phone, but with all its gayness, iphone does have some cool apps, specially when you travel alot.

so if i get the iphone and cancel it next month when her contract is up, can i still use the iphone ? i know i cant make calls, but can i use the wifi for pretty much everythings else ( skype, oovoo, internet, emails etc) ? or would sprint somehow know your not connected to their network and lock your phone ?

and you guys think this is a good idea? i mean im pretty much getting an iphone 4 for like 70$ ( her next months bill)

its not  locked cuz she currently is using it.... my question is, once she cancels the service next year, would sprint "lock" it ?

By locked, he means that once her sim is removed you can't just put another contract sim in the phone and use. It only costs about 15 bucks to unlock the phone and you can chuck in any sim/plan/contract you want.

The phone should legally be her property once the contract is up, as the cost of the handset in included in the monthly payments for the contract period.

And to answer your original question Marlo - No, but you need to renew your gay card.

i know i know i already said that i should be shot to death for even contemplating this.... but stuck at 40,000 ft for 10 hours, i rather be entertained on the iphone that to be bored out of my fucking mind :D

and she is getting a NEW phone with a NEW sim card... so she is gonna go to sprint store this weekend, get a brand new iphone 4s, and activate it, and then hand her old phone to me...

so from what i hear , after her plan expires next month, i can use the phone with all its functionality except Telephone and text messaging... again, not bad for just $70 to get an iphone, and judging her, shes not the sharpest thing in the kitchen so she'll prob just hand over her old phone to me without deleting all her pictures :D

Tell the bitch to wait for a month.

The only new thing the 4S has is the little asshole who talks to you.

sprint is on cdma network like verizon, no sim card in that phone. (att and tmobile have sim cards) if it was att, you could unlock it and put in a tmonile prepaid simcard, and itd work just fine, except you're data would be slower.

If you got her old spint phone, you could take it to either boost or metropcs and have it flashed. If I were you, i'd sell it (the spring iphone) and buy an iphone4 on ATT network so you could get an att prepaid sim ($55 per month unlimited everything). i

Iphones don't have sim slots easily accessible unless you take it apart.

Maybe im not expressing this properly..

i DONT want another telephon eline, nor do i want an unlocked phone, nor do i want a phone connected to any telephone carrier.

my only question is, would a SPRINT iphone work without being connected to the SPRINT carrier? i understand i have to use wifi, and thats fine ... again, the question is, would the carriers somehow know that an IPHONE with serial number XYZ is not registered on any network, and them somehow lock down the phone?

i already have a different phone, so im not looking to add another line, i just thought its good that for 70$, i can get an iphone which i will use on an airplane  as a video player, music player, play games, book reader, camera etc..

thanks for all the tips about the sim cards and how to unlock the phone, but im not looking to be registered on any networks, WIFI is good enough for me

Yes they do.  My old iphone I gave to my nephew who uses it as an ipod touch now and it was an AT&T phone.  Once the network registration is done on the phone it operates as an ipod touch with no phone service and wifi and skype work great.
