I never liked pre exhausting too much, but the first time I did that with leg extensions before squats, I couldn't walk the next day. Doesn't necessarily means more growth, I know...

so in your opinion, what does mean more growth?

Total weight on the whole body or a large part of it, not just on an individual muscle..
