Bursitus and weight training.
« on: July 26, 2012, 05:51:36 PM »
Its been coming back again and again and I know cortico injections in a joint are supposed to be limited so how do you stop it or prevent it from coming back.  Ive had two injections in four months so what now?

surgery.

had one done last year, the other in 2 weeks.

They clean out all the frayed and damaged tissue and ligament etc and clean up the surfaces.

IF its worse, they might find minor tears in the tendons and need to reattach those as well, AND they might need to open up a space for the delt and tendon to easily slide over..that means they take off a bit of your clavicle.

They usually do the first thing first, unless they find torn tendons when they do the MRI..then they do both.

recovery is a bitch. weeks/months. I could barely move for a day or so, then over a week it got better quickly, but it was still limited for about 12 weeks. At week 20 i feel as its back to better than bursitis, but i still havent trained as heavy as i ever did..probably never will again.

there you go.

I had an ortho suggest cutting a proximal bicep tendon to alleviate tendonitis.  I said "no thanks".   The PT I saw for my knee said I'm going to tear it someday anyhow.  Once you pass 45-50...if you're active, you have a really good chance of blowing out a proximal tendon. I won't bother with reattachment...no point to it.

Oddly enough...I defied the odds and tore the distal tendon instead.

It's a mythical substance that doesn't really exist, such as lucky charms, magical beans, fairy dust, "the force" from star wars, a wizards wand, GH15's pro card, a witches broomstick, Dan Hills arms....shall I explain further?

right shoulder and doc said bursitis don't remember many more details, what I'd like to know is how often can the injections be received before they start doing damage

In Holland, but we are very conservative with medication, it's 1 shot plus another one if necessary 2 weeks later. That's all.

Makes sense so I guess I need to look at surgical options.

Or really no weights for some time.....surgery is usually the best option when there's calcifications.
