Romney will never have a huge bump with getting the nod, choosing Ryan, having the conventions, OR the debates.

he'll just stay right around half the vote, and hope his voters are more motivated than Obama's voters.

2008 was all about inconsistency.  Palin bumped mccain 6 points, and they lost by 6 - that kind of inconsistency is NOT what you want in a ticket.

Romney/Ryan will never dazzle anyone, but they'll also never sink 5 points in a few weeks because one of them melts down.

Keep is close and beat the incumbent by being a default alternative - safe plan, and the only one Romney can win with.

Obama can kiss North Carolina goodbye.

- Labor union goons, in a right-to-work state
- Anti-big-bank sentiment in Bank of America stadium
- Support for gay "marriage" in a state that passed a marriage amendment four months ago, with the guy who signed DOMA into law as the keynote speaker.
- The party that demands IDs, just to attend its own convention, wants no IDs for the precious right to vote for which our ancestors bled and died.
- The party that claims its opponents are living in the past relies on a PAST president, hoping that waxing nostalgic on his record will make them forget about the current president's record.

Not, to mention the debt clock hits $16T tomorrow and the jobs and unemployment numbers hit on Friday. Can you imagine how stupid Obama is going to look, if he tries to cite that Americans are better off than four years ago and unemployment hits, say, 8.5%?

Why are you still stuck on revisionist history?

McCain crashed and burned for two reasons: The economic crash and McCain's erratic and impotent response to that.

I predict Joe Biden will make a gaffe-ish statement on Wednesday or maybe Obama will be upstaged by a Clint Eastwood-like stunt...

And every media outlet out there will be all over this "look how stupid biden is, hardy har har".

Obama NEEDS a story to bump these numbers off the airwaves Friday morning.

His numbers were all over the place.  Romney is very consistent is comparison.  a six-point bump for palin isn't based upon anything but celebrity.

Every small uptick that Romeny has seen is real and will stay.  Much smarter plan than mccain, making wild unvetted picks like Palin to see a big jump that would only be temporary.

I agree with Romney's numbers staying, in large part because there'll be no economic miracle in two months that will save Obama (the way the economic crash in 2008 save him then).

But, as I said, that crash doomed McCain's campaign, not Palin.

yes - but palin was a big part of the mccain campaign.  that erratic, uncontrolled, frantic handling of the economic collapse (i'm suspending campaign, and i want to cancel veep debate) is a lot lie the frantic handling of the VIP selection.

The whole campaign, he was uncontrolled.  Mitt isn't as flashy, Ryan isn't as exciting - but they're stable.  People want that.

If you take a look at the electoral map, it seems as if Romney has momentum on his side. States are slowly swinging toward him. For example, at the end of 2011, the polls showed that Michigan was a deep blue state (Obama had very high favorability). Now, the latest polls make Michigan a battleground state.
