When was this vote?  Oh, article is from September 20, 2012.

It didn't hurt the GOP a month ago, why bring it up now?

Republicans said the effort to help veterans was noble, but the bill was flawed nevertheless.

Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma said the federal government already has six job-training programs for veterans and there is no way to know how well they are working. He argued that making progress on the country's debt was the best way to help veterans in the long-term.

Little late to the party as the last thread on this that BlackenWhork started was destroyed by Kazan. Keep swinging, haha.

Pwnt.

Not that it matters as the vets hate Obama and a joke of a program isn't going to change that.

So creating another program and more bureaucracy is going to help?

This legislation was garbage and all it was going to do was add more debt. At best it was going to be a temporary aid to veterans. Like the shovel ready jobs that never endured.

The best way to help EVERYONE, not just veterans, is for the economy to recover.

This type of legislation is akin to putting a band aid on a severed limb.

Yup we have money to send them to war and get shot to pieces but we should not help them get jobs ::)

That was their job.  They signed up for it.  I cannot imagine if I quit my job that my employer would help me get a new one.  However, being such a big sacrifice that these men and woman took,  I think they are entitled to some kind of extra benefit but there has to be a limit.

Your job isn't like the military so its a very different story. That said they have mandatory programs that you have to go through to help transition you back to civilain life. The issue isn't the programs its making sure that vets know they exist. Plus alot of these programs are started to further the Gov, not actually help anybody. There are 7K or so people on my base here in A-stan...the majority are contractors...most 3rd country nationals....any of you guys need a job?

Ive said from the start.

If there is 1 single solitary group of Americans that should never have to worry about work/money, its the military, and i didnt even serve (that fucks with my head from time to time)

My Grandparents, Dad, Brother Uncles cousins have all served (basically every male in my family)

But for what these guys do for protecting our freedoms and way of life... with their life... i think it shouldnt be a question of who should be the most rewarded in our society. Im not sure how to do it, but i know it needs to be done.

yeah, great argument there by Coburn

there would have been no way to know whether it would have worked so the best thing to do is not even try

how do we know anything is going to work until you try it?

I'm sure the vet sitting home unemployed will be consoled to know that Coburn is so concerned about the deficit

After all, we sent that vet to war without knowing whether it would work and without paying for it but that different

We have a volunteer military, anyone who joins knows the possibility of being sent to war. Anyone who joined after 9/11 knew they were going to war. Should vets get extra consideration, absolutely. There are already numerous programs to aid vets, it's an election year stunt.

how can you make that declaration

is the fact that vets have a higher rate of unemployment an election year stunt on their part?

Then why not do it 2 years ago? You can't see that these bills mysteriously appear at elections time?

I remember in 2011, when Obama wanted to increase spending for ACAP, Rush Limbaugh said it was because Obama thought veterans were too stupid to get a job.

Did you hear that show? I couldn't believe my ears.

Haha, you mean like immigration reform? Obama has no principles and takes no positions. He only takes a position when it helps him in the polls.

Not only that I wonder how many bullshit riders and pork was attached to that bill. Its not like they vote on a bill and the only thing, and costs, in that bill are what the bill is named for. There is so much unrelated happy horseshit attached to this stuff it is amazing any thinking rational representative would vote in favor of anything. Of course thinking rational representative is a bit of an oxymoron
