I've been talking about this guy for years now.  Obama saw him as so much of a potential 2012 threat that he put him to work in china.  The guy's a billionaire, conservative, looks presidential, and speaks chinese economics.

Jon Huntsman, the former GOP Utah governor who President Obama convinced to serve as U.S. ambassador to China, has hinted to Newsweek that he is considering a run for president himself.

Newsweek's McKay Coppins reports: Now, it appears, the ambassador is ready to make some noise of his own. Sitting in the echo-y living room of his new Washington home, Huntsman, a tall, lean man with silver hair and impeccable posture, pauses only briefly when faced with the question of presidential aspirations. "You know, I'm really focused on what we're doing in our current position," he says. "But we won't do this forever, and I think we may have one final run left in our bones." Asked whether he is prepared to rule out a run in 2012 (since it would require him to campaign against his current boss), he declines to comment.

The winking response--about as close to a hat-in-ring announcement as you'll get from a sitting member of the incumbent's administration--could just be a hollow cry for attention. But sources close to Huntsman (who requested anonymity to speak freely without his permission) say that during his December trip to the U.S., he met with several former political advisers in Washington and Salt Lake City to discuss a potential campaign.

In May 2009 -- prior to Huntsman's appointment as ambassador -- President Obama's presidential campaign chief David Plouffe claimed that the Utah Republican was the one potential 2012 GOP presidential candidate who made him feel a "wee bit queasy...I think he's really out there speaking a lot of truth about the direction of the party." Indeed, when Obama selected Huntsman for the ambassadorial role, it was viewed as an effort to handicap Huntsman's ability to throw his hat in the presidential ring.

Read about this guy - he has all the money, gloss, and economic knowledge of a Mitt Romney, with none of the Liberal baggage that mitt had.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Huntsman,_Jr.

He worked for Reagan and both Bush's.  He played keyboard in a rock band.  He's worth billion$.  As governor, Huntsman listed economic development, health-care reform, education and energy security as his top priorities.  Oversaw LARGE TAX CUTS.

So please, 333386, I'll do your laundry or whatever... just please learn about this guy and start selling him with the intensity you defend whats-her-name...

I was thinking about you and him the other day, ...and how surprised I was that you got it wrong.
Looks like your record is still intact. I should start calling you the GetBig oracle.  :D

he might be a beacon of hope for repubs looking at that field, trying to find someone new and exciting.

This guy will have the right - without a doubt.  He was governor of UTAH.  As conservative as can be.

He did his patriotic duty and went where obama - his president - asked him.  That'll play well with moderates - the dude derailed his career to work across the aisle.

Finally... for people concerned with economy..
He was the MAN in charge of making sure china didn't drop all us Debt for the last 2 years.  Kinda a big deal there.  imagine him up against a Palin or a Huck.  They start talking about "we need to be smarter with our money" or some other lame political catch phrase.  Then huntsman retors with some detail trade exchange policies that he personally initiated, and their results.  Talk about over matched!

And Romney wouldn't be able to out-spend him.  Quite the contrary ;)
And Huck couldn't outGod him.

I'm sure we'll learn more about him in the coming days and weeks... but THIS is the time when the GOP candidates are going to need to start making noise so they can get the infrastructure in place to win primaries starting in Dec 2011.

It was Jan 20 that hilary entered the race last time.
It was Feb 10 that obama entered the race last time.
It was Dec 26th that Edwards announced his run.

Rudy waited until April, and didn't have the cash or infrastructure to compete a full eight months later, despite being seen as the winner long ahead of time.

So these guys are gonna start making a TON of noise, fdirst week of jan.  Starting TOMORROW.

He looks good.  Don't like the fact he apparently supported the stimulus.

Huntsman signed $12B in federal economic stimulus as state block grants

The nation's governors urge you to include state countercyclical funding as part of your legislation to stimulate the economy. This would include $6 billion in Medicaid assistance by freezing scheduled federal FMAP reductions and increasing all states' F Congress approved $20 billion in assistance to states, including $10 billion in Medicaid and $10 billion in block grants. The governors' current stimulus proposal is essentially the same, with the exception that it is a total of $12 billion as opposed to $20 billion. This proposal can be enacted quickly, as there is precedent and it is timely, temporary and targeted.

Additionally, governors appreciate federal efforts to use tax policy to get additional money into the hands of consumers and businesses to stimulate the economy. When considering tax changes to spur economic growth, governors urge Congress and the Administration to follow the maxim of "Do no harm" by avoiding changes at the federal level that would diminish state tax revenues or force state actions that would undermine the effectiveness of federal efforts.

We look forward to working with you to enact the appropriate stimulus program.

I will be voting against Obama (again), so if he's the Republican nominee I'll likely vote for him.  Perhaps he is one of the dark horses Bill Kristol recently mentioned.

What I won't do is waste my vote by voting for a nincompoop libertarian.

Republicans have a tendency to see intelligence as 'elitist'.
They prefer down home folksy types that believe humans mingled with dinosaurs, and mangle sentences and scribble cheat notes on their hands

remember when he actually REFUSED to sign all those tax and abortion pledges?

he had the guts to stand up to the special interests and extremists.  And he was the only CALM candidate onstage.  The others were caffeinated or agitated out of their minds, eager to jump and scream over each other about who was most severely conservative and who ws most inspired by Reagan.   Huntsman calmly stated that pledges offer inflexibility, and a sincere president doesn't sign them - he needs every possible tool in his bag, and needs people to know he's based on integrity and won't promise anything to everyone (exactly what mitt did).

Hopefully in 2016, Huntsman will run again.  He's a solid Jeb alternative.

I've heard that a lot, and I dont understand... "I PREFER a candidate like joe the plumber, a regular guy like me!"

Really?   REALLY?

Do you prefer your heart surgeon is an elitist who spent 10 years in college, or just another regular guy?
Do you want your pilot to be just a regular casual flying enthusiast, or a union pilot with 30 years in the skies?

President leads national economy, controls the nuclear football, and makes decisions that affect us all -
Do you REALLY want an average, lazy, misinformed, cluless "average" person doing that job?

Why do we prefer highly trained, eductated, intelligent people for everything high quality in our lives - but we want joe the plumber or sarah the grifter for president?   ???

In 2016, I would prefer two phds with military experience + peace Corp and their own small biz experience.   Not two "average joes".

Most republican voters are dumb.

And really dumb people dont realise they are dumb so anything they dont understand they dismiss.
