Obama's Gun Push Takes Shape

President Obama "would actively support an impending proposal next year to reinstate a ban on assault weapons as part of the wide-ranging effort the president promised to initiate in response to mass shooting incidents this year," NBC News reports.

White House press secretary Jay Carney also said that Obama "was additionally willing to consider limiting the capacity of ammunition magazines and closing a loophole allowing individuals to purchase firearms at gun shows without a background check."

I'm more or less OK with closing the "gun show loophole" although I'd have to see details of what exactly that would mean practically and how it is achieved.

Every gun show I have been to has a ATF agent there and all firearms called through a NICS check in order to walk out the door.

I'm not aware of that. If it's true, great. If not, then it should be done. This, to me, is a simple, common-sense measure that nobody can rationally oppose.

NICS check for  LICENSED dealers. The "gunshow loophole" refers to the fact that that UNLICENSED dealers aren't required to do bg checks and they account for about half of the sales at gunshows.

Not the ones I have been too.

But I agree all transfers should go through NICS - I have no problem w that.

Yea, Id call 5 in one year fairly isolated...

Truth be told there are probably a lot more shootings at schools than 5 but of those the ones that morons are politicizing for political gain are isolated.

now answer the questions, how would any of his proposed laws stop those 5 isolated incidents?

The only thing protecting us from liberal stupidity is guns. I love the assholes on CNN and MSNBC whining and crying about assault rifles and high capacity magazines..."u don't need those hunt"....no silly lib u needs those to wack as many  Obama thugs as possible when they come to take you weapons. I think you libs don't understand the point of the 2nd Amendment. Its not to keep Cabela's and Gander Mountain in business.
