And if you do have ish (drugs, weapons, para, etc), then you are effed, because it justifies them.

Problem is, the majority of people are stupid, and do and say all sorts of things to get themselves hemmed up.
"It's my boyfriend's car and I 'borrowed' it"? So, that could mean you stole it.

There wasn't any marijuana.  So the cop's judgment is drawn further into question, because the supposed idea he has of the existence of marijuana becomes supported only by what he, himself, claims.

That's why she should have given an absolute NO.  By answering in a uncertain way, the cop has a green light to continue his interaction.

In the aftermath, you want everything to be on the cop.
