Like I said, each searched house would be documented. Anyone who has a complaint, they would still have the process in place to register their complaint.

I'll help you.  I comes from the constituents of the Senators.  There are already plenty of background checks.  However, felons try to buy guns and the background check blocks them, no one ever follows up.  They don't enforce the current laws so it will appear that the current laws aren't enough and that we need more laws.  The funny thing is, if new laws were put in place and enforced it still would do fuck all to stop Sandy Hook style shootings.  Everyone knows that.  Dems just want to use this recent tragedy to whittle away at the 2nd amendment.  Something they have wanted to do for a long time.  Using the corpses of those children to push this gun their agenda is disgraceful.

I would bet that if you asked those officers today, they would say they wished they had not went house to house searching for the guy and just went directly to the boat he was hiding in. Had they known it was JUST a 19 yr old kid who was defenseless I'm sure they would have sat around those houses smoking cigarettes and chatting up the residents.

It would be my guess that before a single house was searched during that event, the legality was discussed among the brass. It is possible that someone from the legal dept was contacted for an opinion. Once it was determined that they had legal justification (whether that stands up to a challenge or not) they communicated that information to the officers who would include who, what, when, where, how and why in their supplements which would include the reason for the search. This would include whether they were given consent or not. That is just my guess based on what would likely occur from past experience.
