Underrated like Alves, was popular 10 years ago then vanished. Why is there never any mention of him?

Aesthetics don't win shows anymore. Same for Melvin Anthony. Melvin's last show he competed in and won (Iron Man or LA pro, whatever they called it at that time) qualified for the Olympia, couldn't get any sponsors, and faded away.

Fact is he won a show, got an O qualification, and still couldn't pick up the smallest of sponsors. Maybe he was playing highball with the companies but he still had some value left.

He did, I don't know. I remember seeing him in mags being with one sponsor (the ripped shirt), and then he was with Muscletech, and then someone else, etc.
Did he have a reputation?

I think he had his 2 training businesses before he retired, so I'm not sure he ever needed a sponsor like Melvin and some of the others complained about not having.

after the colorado pro he lost to phil, his star started dim a bit. plus a lot of new blood arrived on the scene.
