In this case, the reporter could have turned around and gotten the fuck out of Dodge, but she persisted.  The woman (mother) was nuts, and the reporter wanted to milk it even more.  Reporter got what she deserved.

It's never too late to change the behaviour of abused or neglected animals. Look up 'Best Friends Animal Society' and how they took in some of Michael Vicks dogs and successfully rehabilitated and rehomed the majority of them.
