my problem with the mma thing is you can be world champion in 6 or 7 fights.... you could be the best olympic boxer, and youd still need at least 20 fights to work your way upto pro world class level

mma guys know this and it kills them inside

More often than not, 20 fights against less than stellar opposition.

You could be the baddest guy on the planet it does not matter in the street, the only thing is the guy who lands the first punch, how many times have you seen two guys arguing and one hits the other and knock him out, because in the street nobody says are you right lets fight, the punch comes without warning.

Smartest post in this thread .

BTW , I told this story before , my buddies  and I  were laughing  at two  Minessota  college wrestler wearing wife beaters at the club  , one of them got in my face and  I knocked  him the fuck out , he didn't even know what hit him , maybe if he took me down first he would have beat my ass but  it didn't happen , many times it's all about who pull the trigger first .

This is stupid... why would anyone get involved in a streetfight?

Put some gloves on the college wrestler and put him in a ring with Mayweather. He'd get killed.

Put mayweather on the mat with the college kid and Mayweather would get killed.

Whats his point? MMA is more useful than boxing in a streetfight? why would anyone get involved in a streetfight. Best way to get yourself stabbed and shot.

Anton Tabuena:

Global Expansion. It is very easy for long time fans of the sport to forget that MMA is still at its infancy.

We're still scratching the surface on where this sport can go, and you can see that with about half the world still unaware of its existence. It doesn't need to be Dana White's "bigger than soccer" claim, but as more and more promotions keep breaking into new markets, everything will start evolving.

The talent level will be better and deeper, the pay scale and overall market for the sport will improve, and perhaps the most intriguing possibility is that the sport and the fighting styles will evolve as well.

People always gush over Cung Le and his San Shou, Lyoto Machida with his Karate, or maybe Jose Aldo's Muay Thai. That's great and all, but imagine if the sport gains mainstream acceptance all over, where guys with truly high level Sanda, Muay Thai, or even Karate skills come to the sport with a well rounded game.

That could revolutionize the sport's "formula" for the perfect styles much like how MMA has evolved away from the time in which Sprawl-n-Brawl looked unstoppable. Of course, all these are still a long ways away, but seeing the sport slowly grow and expand globally is truly a joy to watch, and it makes me look forward to seeing what's in store for the future of Mixed Martial Arts.

I bet Snipes can take a punch...I don't think Rogan would like getting punched in the face.  Snipes should fight Rogan but set it up as boxing only and no head gear...No way Rogan would take that fight.

most older blokes have no time at all for mma, no matter how you try n sell it, 2 guys hugging on a mat for 3 long rounds isnt very attractive

mayweather is an amazing athlete, if he had the inclination to train for a sport where the prize money and the world title means fuck all im sure he could dominate much in the same way Anderson Silva did

mma needs fighters who have to fight to eat like boxing had

you fight because you have to not because you want to and the current ufc fighters have no need to fight besides brazillians

ufc have to aim for 3rd world countries whos citizens have no option to make money or feed there families or themselves

so far its white guys who couldnt cut it in any other sport and try there hand at mma

Depends. I see what you're saying, but in terms of interest and growth patterns; as well as the UFC still entering into new markets and countries, I'd say that MMA is still growing.
the UFC hasnt even expanded in North America

Disagree strongly. Lots of variables involved here. Not all college wrestlers are natural born fighters. A wrestling match and a fight are two different things. Also, Floyd mayweather would knock out your average college wrestler. Only elite wrestlers can take him unless the averge wrestler is well versed in mma. This is coming from someone who grew up wrestling on high school and junior college. Joe rogan is a moron.

Thx CHE ... Both the boxer and the wrestler seemed incomplete and not sure about their footwork
