Many of these large comic conventions have gone mainstream and now everyone wants to go.  I used to live in SD.  I remember in the early 2000's simply walking up to the convention center, buying a ticket and walking in... that's impossible to do today.  

Comic conventions started out as a geek/nerd mutual admiration society, but now the Hollywood studios and big corporations control everything.  It's sad.

Those costumes are not your run of the mill Halloween costumes.  They are replicas and costs hundreds and hundreds.  Makes me wonder how many are really just employees of comic con trying to act like regulars.
