Saved the best for last.  :D

I would have included "God's little gift of sunshine."

I loved the Billy Jack movies when I was a kid. There were no home movies back then and I wasn’t old enough to drive I actually walked to a drive in theater by my house and sat by the concession stand and watched them

He wanted to act, direct, produce and use friends and wife as cast. That does not work for most and it certainly didn't for him. His wife was a terrible actress even on that set.

If you watch the movies now they don't hold up but when Billy Jack came out I was around 14 year old or so.  Every boy around my age thought they were fantastic. It's like watching a Bruce Lee's movie Enter the Dragon now. It's garbage but back then it was amazing.

Many of those old movies don't hold up today.

Production values are superior today.

However, lots of today's movies are really bad too.  They make tons of crappy movies nowadays with bad acting and bad direction.

Some of the great old movies still are good and hold up today.

The Billy Jack movies were low budget, B movies, even then.

Eastwood's westerns are as great today as they were back then.

It rode the wave of the hippie, counter culture movement.  It wasn't so much fine cinema. It was a cultural phenomenon.

Born losers was pretty bad. Billy Jack goes to Washington was really bad.

Billy Jack was ok. The best part was the fight in the park. That said, I watched it at least a dozen times, maybe more..

From memory:

You think those kung fu moves are gonna do you any good against all these boys?

BJ- it doesn't look like I really got a choice.

I guess you don't

BJ- then you know what I'm gonna do just for the hell of it? Im going to take this foot and put it on that side of your face.  And you know what, there isn't a damn thing you're gonna be able to do to stop me.

Really?

BJ- Really. HiYaaa!

Haha. Pocahontas herself.

I don't think Tom Laughlin had any indian blood either. I don't know if he even knew karate at all.

Some of the fight scenes in those movies were actually really good.

I used to watch that movie on Cinemax or HBO. I remember that opening scene where he catches those people and tells them that they're on Indian land and have to get off. I used to imagine them having bloopers of that scene where someone says "why don't YOU get off Indian land; you're not Indian!" and then the director yelling "Cut" and everyone laughing.
