How many muscles in the human body?
« on: September 28, 2013, 07:54:02 PM »
Most sources state that there are over 650 named skeletal muscles in the human body, although some figures go up to as many as 840. The dissension comes from those that count the muscles within a complex muscle.

For example, the biceps brachii is a complex muscle that has two heads and two different origins, however, they insert on the radial tuberosity. Do you count this as one muscle, or two?

You can probably find 650-660 that the majority of physiologists would agree on.

After that it's just semantics amongst a bunch of "B.A. in exercise science" turds pretending to legitimately care whether or not the flexor digitorum brevis should count as a separate muscle for each arm or not.

Smooth muscle is way more interesting.  Whenever I'm moving some jizz by smooth muscle peristalsis, I find it very interesting.
