I don't think the Yankees are the worst example. ARod yes - completely stupid contract. But guys like Tiexiera, etc had the market set for them by other teams. For example, Boston had 172 on the table for him. Yankees beat it by 8M (1M per year) to secure what appeared to be elite talent. That's not an overpay - it's paying market price - he couldn't be had cheaper.
Plus, if you have a huge financial advantage and don't use it, that's bad business. It's on baseball to fix the model.
I disagree here. Moneyball does have it's place. There are plenty of guys that are as good as Tiexiera at half of the price. Just admit that the Yankees are the Wal-Mart of baseball. They have so much money, they can afford to make a ton of shit decisions. Doesn't make it smart.
Yankees remind me alot of the Patriots actually. Remember those great teams from the mid 90's to the early 2000's?
Not flashy, just got the job done. Now, they think they have to get the biggest and best. All teams have a farm system.
