let me preface this by saying i'm not a fan of coach. his politics are laughably stupid and he's pretty up his own ass when it comes to his teaching credentials.
that said, there's a rule in lifting: don't teach the way the best guys do it. the top lifters are the top because they know their bodies flawlessly, and that means doing things that seem on paper "incorrect". chol there also juts his hips to the left on his heavy cleans but you'd be a lunatic not to try and stop younger trainers from doing that.
look at how steve goggins squats with his knees buckled in and bending over like crazy. konstantinovs deadlifts with his back rounded like a caterpillar. there are oly lifters who duck their toes out crazy wide. at that level they and their coaches know EXACTLY how their bodies work. more than that, at the top top top level, they're willing to assume some risk in form if it means grinding another few kilos out on the platform. so you'll get guys doing some pretty shaky stuff under the bar that would get your head bitten off in most classes.
so coach is correct (and I snapped at him initially too). that's a gold medalist and world record holder, but he does that because he and his coach have determined that it's okay for HIM to do it. that's all.
