When a "treat" isn't a treat
« on: October 20, 2013, 01:56:57 PM »
Ok maybe just a pet peeve of mine but wanted to see what the getbig community thinks of this.

So I'm all for fit people or even fat people who have been dieting and working hard to have a treat every now and then. It is deserved and eaten rarely thus the term "treat".  HOWEVER, I take exception when fatsos who don't diet or workout and eat junk on a daily basis refer to their donut, ice cream or whatever as a treat.

That is all. Discuss.

Obesity is a disease and me and my fellow morbids are very ill.   Do we need another donut?  I don't know.  Do you really need more steamed broccoli or ezekial bread or a syringe full of illegal drugs jammed into your buttocks because of your narcisstic addictions?  I don't know.   Sounds like bb is a disease too.  Ask the diseases what they need cause obesity is not something I chose, it's something I caught and didn't want.

I agree, by definition a treat should be reserved for rare occasions and it is best if it is something of exceptional quality as in as in these 99% cocoa chocolate bars, http://calorielab.com/news/2005/12/04/lindt-debuts-super-chocolate-bar-99-cocoa/.

One of the problems people face is that there is tremendous abundance and availability today. This calls for personal restraint, which seems to be lacking in a lot of folks. I have been eating the same chocolate bar for over a week now, one square at a time. That takes self control.  ;D

Only you can fix this though. That is your choice.

Everyone is addicted to something don't you think...

The problem with fatness/food is that your weakness is on display for the world to see whereas other addictions are more easily hidden.

Can you fix cancer?   No and I can't fix obesity.  The fat pill will arrive....it will arrive.

You cannot easily change your metabolism. You can transition from being obese to not being obese through diet and exercise, given patience, persistence and time. A person who is obese may always have to watch their diet very closely if they want to be in good condition. The problem most obese folks face is making the commitment because it isn't easy to do, but then neither is quitting smoking and people do this all the time.

Obesity and cancer are two very different things. Someday there may be a cure for cancer and someday there may be a pill that will make fat people thin without any effort on their part. That day has not arrived yet. You are fooling yourself if this is what you are waiting for. Gastric bypass surgery was supposed to be the fix for obesity and look how that's worked out. Many people are so committed to being fat that they manage to get fat with a stomach the size of a walnut.

it's all about portion control.  I was speaking with a friend today - He has the typical 35 year old pot belly... we talked about junk food... I am able to have a reeces mini peanut butter cup and move on with my day.  One.

He has to eat 6 or 8 or 10 when he has them.   They're only 40 calories.  But my 40 calories and moving on is way different than him enjoying 400 calories of chocolate.  Treats are fine, just outweigh them with a ton of healthy solid food.

Why are they "treating" themselves?  For eating a bunch of other high calorie junk all day? For finding the treats?  For breathing?  We have the most self indulgent entitled people.. It's kind of disgusting.

They are entitled because they eat sugar?  ??? They are self indulgent? Why is this a bad thing, because they don't notice you?
